old chicks are posted to permit of deliv-
ery within 36 hours there is a dauger of
death resulting, according to the post
office department. It has been reported
that cases of day-old chicks have arrived
on Saturday afternoon and Sunday
when there Is no postoffice delivery.
Department points out that parcels con-
taining day-old chicks dote to arrive at
destination on Saturday or Sunday, or
on a public holiday, should not be sent
by mail

A FINE MAN DEPARTS -George
Haney, a well known Bluevale resi-
dent, passed away at the residence of
hie sou,' Councillor William H. Haney,
Leopold St., Wingham, on Monday
morning of last week. He was in his
60th year and for the past couple of
years has suffered untold pain with
dropsy. His wife predeceased him
about, 7 years ago. Surviving mem-
bers of family are :-W. H•, Wing -
ham ; F. N,, manager of the Silks Co.
at Calgary Howard G.. Manager of
the Beaver Alberta Lumber Co. at
Brooks, Alberta ; Harvey with Shelts
Bros, at Brantford ; Mrs. R. J. Hig-
gine, Pilot Mound and Mrs, Jae, Van-
Oamp, Morris. Mr. Haney was born
in the County of Ontario, about 80
miles East of Toronto, and came to

Morris township in 1576. He worked
at contracting and building cc ntinu-
ously until a couple of years ago when

politica he was a stauch Liberal and in
religion an Anglican, although he had
been an adherent of the Presbyterian
Church at Bluevale for years. Rev.
Mr. Tate conducted the services Wed•
nesday afternoon and the brethren of
Bluevale Orange Lodge, of which de-
ceased was a member marched to the
cemetery and conducted their impres-
sive service at the grave. Among the
floral tributes was a wreath from the
members of Wingham town council,
who were also present in a body at the
funeral in reap et to Councillor W. H.
Haney. Mr. Haney enjoyed the re-
spect and esteem of the community.

An important industrial enter-
prise is being added to the list in
Montreal in the plant of the National
Cement Company, which is being
constructed in the town of Montreal
East on the site of one of the largest
deposits of raw material for cement
in Canada. The first unit of the
plant will have a capacity of 900,000
barrels per annum.
