Councillor Walter Rose, Frederick
street, Brussels, in her 75th year. She
was born in Ripley locality, her maiden
name being Jane Green, and was united
in marriage to the late John Rose
over si years ago. Her husband 'pre-
deceased her by 40 years. The family
located in Mitchell vicinity, afterward
moving into town. The subject of this
notice was an invalid for about 8 years
from nerve exbanstion and had not pos.
sessed the power of speech for 7 veers,
being confined to bed nearly all the
time. It is nearly 6 years since deceased
and her daughter, MISS Ida Rose, be
came residents of town. During the
long period of helplessness the mother
was tenderly and constantly cared for
by Miss Rose, who performed her
onerous duties so web the mother's life
was, no doubt, extended for years, It
was a heroine's part all right that was

able to say so. Other surviving mem-
bers of the family are Walter Rose, of

Service work of the Methodist cburch of
Canada will be taken next Sunday in
Brussels Methodist church,
The regular morning service was held
last Sabbath in the lecture room of. the
Methodist church, which, by hard work.

preached on tbe subject of "Progres-
sive Cbristianity," Hebrews 6-I. Even-
ing service wss withdrawn out of com-
pliment to the introductory services of
Rev. Mr. Lewitt, the new rector of St.
John's church, a large number of the

Rev '1' E Millson, President of Lon-
don hfetbbdist Conference, met with
officials of the Conference, and as a
result the first draft of the Conference
program has been announced. London
Conference, this year, the first annual
session, is being held in Central church,
Windsor, at the request of the congrega-
tion of that church. Conference com-
mences Thursday, June 5th. at 8 45 R.
m and will continue until Tuesday,
June loth. The Conference this year is
to be marked by the presence of a num•
bar of unusually distinguished men.

the morning the theme of the discourse
was "Love to our fellow men" and in

subject being "Love to Almighty God."
Before commencing the sermon Rev.
Mr. Lewin welcomed Rev. Mr. Clarke
and the Methodist congregration to the
service and felt it a great compliment fa
have their service withdrawn for the
evening. The spirit of brotherly love
and unity displayed would be heartily
reciprocated. The rev. gentleman is
athletic., with clear voice, ready speak-
er and his ministrations on Sunday were
well received. Rev. Mr. Clarke read
the Scripture lessons at the evening

Harry Locke as organist, did their part
web. Mrs Locke sang a solo in good

as audience retired and was welcomed
to Brussels by many. Mr, Lewin motor-
ed back to Bervie Sunday evening and

session of the comfortable and commo-
dious rectory on 'PuesdFy, Tux POST,
in behalf of the townsfolk and people of
the community, welcomes the new ar-
rivals and hope, their residence in Brus-
sels will be of a very happy and helpful
charaetet. It is more than 6 months
since Rey. Mr, Connor removed so his
successor will have some necessary rally
log of hie forces in the resumption of
the regular services here and at Walton.

of Rev, Mr. Lewin.
There will be a golf course this Sum-
mer. Grounds on the Goderich road
have been secured. They are beauti-
fully situated --a thick woods to one
side while the lake is on view on the
other. The grounds were laid out by
a professional of Maitland Golf Club,
Mr. Given, who considers it makes
an excellent course, having 2 of the
9 holes over 400 yards in length, while
the whole round le a mile and a half.
