Holmes, a retired Captain in the United States Army, who died at his hom0, 129 Webb avenue, Detroit, April tOtb, was held from the residence Saturday after- noon, with interment in Roseland Mausoleum. Dr. Holmes, who is sur- vived by his widow, Mrs. Sarah M. Holmes, a son, Dr. Alfred W. Holmes, and 2 daughters, Mrs. A, S. Watson and Miss ]stella Holmes, was born in Halmesville, Huron County, Ontario, in 1847. He received his education at Victoria College, ;Cobourg, and later graduated in medicine and surgery from Bellevue College, New York City. He did graduate work later at McGill Uni- versity, Montreal. At one time Dr. Holmes was city physician in New York, and later he had charge of the Nursery and Child's Hospital an Staten Island. He went to Detroit 32 years' ago. Dr. Holmes served in both the Spanish- American and World Ware, The Dr. was a well known resident of Brussels for several years and practiced his pro. fession, Old friends will be a unit in according, sympathy with the bereaved.
