Friday afternoon at 2 30 O'0100k, Rev,
Dr. McGregor, Landon. will give an
address in Melville chore: on the ques-
tion of Church Union, He is an ea.
tbusiastic supporter of it. All will be
welcome.
Rev. Mr. McLeod, of Melville church,
will perform the duties of Moderator of
Cranbrook and Ethel Presby terian con-
gregations during the pastoral vacancy
occasioned by the' removal of Rev, Mr.
Kennedy to his new charge.
A most appropriate New Year's ser-
mon was preached last Sabbath morning
in the Methodist church by Rev. C, F.
Clarke from the text. "Come in thou
blessed of the Lord," Gen, 24-31. Even.
ing discourse was based on Psi rig x8.
"Open thou mine eyes that I may be-
hold wondrous things out of Thy law."
"Which shall it be in 1924 a blessing
or a curse Y" was the subject dealt with
by the pastor in Melville church on the
closing Sabbath morning of elle year.
Text was. Deuteronomy 11-26, "Behold I
set before you a blessing and a curse."
The similarity between the conditions
existing is Israel at the time the words
of the text were shown by the speaker.
Israelites were leaving the past
spotted abd marred and were aboct to
enter 0n new era in their history, so we
are about to leave bebind us 2923 with
all its failures and go forward into 2924,
IaourNational life we are nearing a
crisis when God only knows what may
happen. If we are to face the future
with courage and obtain the blessing we
trust remember that (s) God loves us
and wants us to be happy. (2) There
mast be no compromise with evil.
There must be pure and undefiled wor-
ship of tbe one God. Happiness 2s in
proportion as we follow Jesus Christ.
At the evening service pastor dealt with
the subject of "Obtaining a good re-
port," Hebrews 02-39, "These all ob-
tained a good report through Faith."
The methods by which a good report
are to be obtained are (r) Begin at the
bottom ;h) Be willing to climb; (g)
Have a purpose based on a vision ; (4)
Cultivate Perseverance) (5) Have
Courage born of Faith.
