WORK 11 so made good progress at the
repairs to the mill dam during past
week. Stone was crushed by the Car-
diff mill and the McNab cement mixer
soon got tbe material ready, Wall is 10
feet high and 36 feet long and when fill-
ing in at the back is complete the work
should stand a good many years. Low
water bas favored the carrying out of the
job.

Sec No 3 of the Adolescent Suhool At-
teudnuceAct, says :—Section 3 of the
Act, which comes into operation on Sep-
tember 1St, 1921, provides for the at-
tendance at school of adolescents be-
tween fourteen and sixteen years of age,
The Minister announces that in con-
formity with this section of the Act,
pupils are expected to remain in full-
time attendance at school until they are
sixteen years of age unless employed on
the authority of a home permit or an em-
ployment certificate as provided for by
the Act, but that it is not his ioteotion
to instruct Attendance Officers to snake
the Act retroactive by endeavoring to
compel young persons between fourteen
and sixteen years of age who have been
engaged 'u regular employment to re-
turn to school. School authorities, ac-
eard(ny,le, will, in the beginning, be
charged with providing only for the con•
tinued instruction of those who are at
present at school and not for the num-
bers who :night be forced to return to
school by the strictest iuterpretstiOn of

During the past week Mrs, Chambers,
daughter of Elijah and Mrs, Jacklin, to-
gether with her daughter and son-in-
law and their three daughters, all of
Detroit, have been visiting in town and
relatives in Grey township. The visit-
ors motored from Detroit. They report
tuueh unemploymeut in their borne
city and very short crops on the road
here, On Wednesday evening relatives
to the number of 35 gathered at the
borne of Mr. and Mrs. Jacklin to bid
their American friends Goodbye. All
spent an enjoyable time. A eouple of
families did not get home until 5 a. m
next morning,

Mrs H. E. and Miss Maddock, of
Kincardine, were renewing old friend -
chips in Brussels. The former is a sis
ser of H. L. Jackson, of towp, and will
be better remembered by saying she was
Elsie Jackson in maiden days.
Postmaster Scott has been poorly dur-
ing part of the past week in the shape of
sort of fainting spells, High blood pres-
sure is the cause, it is said. Hope he
will soon be free from his indisposition
for F. S is not built on the lay-up lines.
B and Mrs Gerry, Fort William, have
recently returned from an enjrvable
visit at the home of their son. Albert,
who lives at Indian Head. They were
on hand for au old time picnic in the
Qui Appelle valley, Dominion Day do•
Ings and the 12th of July celebration,
They found everything in good shape
and crop prospects fine. Hope for 20 to
30 bushels per acre. Mr Gerry writes

Fort William but is following the trip
