ON SACRED ISLAND
DOG S ARE ALSO FORBID-
DEN ON MIYAJIM,A,
Otherwise You May Do As'
You Like in Kingdom of
the Rising Sun.
No births, no deaths, no dogs, -is the
rule on the sacred island of Miyajima,
in the Inland Sea of Japan, says a
writer in the London Daily Mail, With
the trilling exception oe entering the
world, leaving 1t,, or starting a "ken-
nel," you may do practically what you
chose there.
Stringent religious regulations, dat-
ing far back into' history, forbid the
email adventures which I have named,
though I am hound to confess that
with regard', to the first two obedience
is not so strictly inforced as it used to
be.
Occasionally a baby, anxious to be-
gin existence, hurries into the world
before its time. Nowadays inlnani-
tarianisnl is stronger than Shinto law,
and no more terrible penalty is exact-
ed from the unlucky mother than that
she shall be proved ta, the mainland
as soon as possible and retrain there
for thirty days.
As for death, once the poor sufferer
at his last gasp was ferried across to
some other shore lest his final breath
should pollute sacred soil Now, if
needs be,•he is allowed to die in peace,
but his corpse is instantly removed to
Ono for burial, and the chief mourn-
ers who attend the funeral are obliged
to absent themselves from Miyajima
for fifty days of ceremonial purifica-
tion.
Chief Sights of Japan.
Miyajima,• according to the Japan-
ese, is One of the San-I:ei, or three
chief sights of the country. If uoble
heights, violently wooded rocks and
ravines, tiny valleys which trail down
to the sea carrying on their bosoms
laughing streams, count for anything,
the island is a gent.
But that is an exterior impression.
Miyajima has a soul which it will re-
veal to you if' you give it -time.

Every woman's health is dependent
upon the condition of her blood, I•low
many women suffer with hreadache,
pain 111 the back, poor appetite, weak
digestion, a .constant fooling of weari-
ness, palpitation of the heart, short-
ness of breath, pallor and nervous -
nese? Of eoeree all these symptoms

are the worse the condition of the
blood, and the more neoeeaary that
you should begin to enrich it without
delay, Dr. Williams' Pink Pills are
a splendid blood -building tonic. Every
dose helps to make better blood which
goes to every part of the body and
brings now health to weak, despondent
people. Dr. Williams' Pink Pill; are
valuable to all women but they are
particularly useful to girls of school
age who become pale, languid and ner-
vous. There can be neither healthnor
beauty without red blood which gives
brightness' to the eyes and color to
the cheeks and llpa. Dr. Williams'
Pink Pills build u11 the blood, as is
sbown by the experience of Mrs. Jos.
E. Veniotte, West Northfield, N.S.,
who says: "For several years I was
in a bad state of health. I was pale
and . nervous, my appetite was poor,
and I suffered from weakness, head-
aches and a feeling of oppression. I
got so nervous that 'I was afraid to
stay hi the house alone, All this time
I was taking medicine, but it only did
not help me, but I was growing weak-
er. Fleetly I decided to try Dr. 1'Yil-
lfame' Pink Pills, and after using six
boxes I felt much better. I had a bet-
ter appetite, slept betterand felt
stronger. However, I continued tak-
ing the pills for a couple of months
longer and now I am feeling as well
as ever I did. I give all the credit to
Dr. Williams' Pink Pills, and hope
that my experience may be of benefit
to 50100 other weak woman."
