M. Murdie, Veteran Twp. Clerk
of McKiiiop, and Mrs. Murdie
Presented with Easy Chairs..
A pleasing event took place at the
home of M. Murdie, McKillop, on
evening of March 10th, when McKil-
lop Council and officials and a few
Mende assembled at hie home to show
their appreciation' of his long service
to the municipality of McKillop, as
Councillor, Reeve and Clerk, extend-
ing over a period of 40 years, 16 years
of that time being Township Clerk.
Frank J. McQuaid, Reeve of MeKil-
lnp, was Chairman and John McNay,
Township Clerk, read the following
address,- while G. K. Holland, Chas.
Little and John Dodds made the pre-
sentation of a pair of handsomely up-
holstered chairs to Mr, and Mrs.
Murdie and a silver butter dish to
Miss Vera Murdie; -
DEAR FRIENns. We, the under-
signed officials of McKillop and other
friends, regretting as we do your re-
signation of the Clerkship, could not
let the occasion pass without calling
on yourself and Mrs. Murdie to give
some expression of the loss we feel in
your absence from the Township
Board. Most of us have known you
all our lives, and whether as a neigh-
bor or in public life, we have found
you always pursuing a straight course
in your career of 40 years in public
life as Township Councillor, later as
Reeve and latterly over 18 years as
Clerk, It ie no flattery to say you
were consistently doing what you
thought was right. Justice, Economy
and Truth seemed your motto and
your ripe experience has always been
a guide to the inexperienced, your
cultivated manner the example of a
gentleman. Now, dear friend, al-
though parting in a public capacity,
e are glad to know that yourself and
Mrs. Murdie, are in fair good health
and intend to take a well-earned rest.
As a small token of good wishes we
ask you to accept these chairs. Hop-
ing your remaining years will be long
and happy. Signed John McNay,
Clerk F. J. McQuaid, Reeve ; Coun-
cillors, John Dodd, D. Regele, Ed.

Mr Murdie made a feeling reply
and accepted the gifts in the spirit
they were given. He said there had
always existed the best of good feel-
ing during his tenure of office between
himself and the Council and officials
of the municipality,
Speeches by the Reeve and officials
eulogized Mr. Murdie's long and ef-
ficient services as a municipal officer,
as a neighbor and as a roan who had
given the very beet to further the in-
terests of the township, both in public
and private life.
A few hours were spent in conversa-
tion and games. After a sumptuous
lunch, prepared by the bootees, had
been partaken of, ail departed Inc
