ADOLESCENT ACT
Official Explanation of The New
Legislation Advancing Scgoal
Age.
The Adolescent School Attendance
Act, by the proclamation of the Lieuten-
ant- Governor, made on July 13, 1920,
will come into force and take effect as
follows: Section 3 on September 1921
Section 7 on September i, 1923, and
Section 9 on September 1922.
The purpose of bringing the Act into
force by stages is to make it possible to
adjust gradually school accommodations
courses of study, and employments in
industries to the conditions sat up by
the requirements of the Act.
Section 3 of the Act, which comes
into operation on September 1, 1921,
provides for the attendance at school of
adolescents between 14 and 16 years of
age. The Minister announces that in
conforinity with this section of the
sixteen years of age unless employed on
the authority of a home permit or
an employment certificate as pro -

required by law.
Section 9, which provides for the
establishment and maintenance of
part-thne courses of instruction for j
young persons at work, comes into
operation on September 1, 1922, The
Minister expects that boards will be
prepared to make this section effective

The Law
as amended Nov. 10, 1919
P' HIS Referendum on April 18 is to ratify a new federal
law, namely, the Canada Temperance Act, as recently
amended by Dominion Parliament.
If a majority of the people of Ontario vote in favor of
the Canada Temance Act as amended, then, in the exact
words of the law, rt follows:
1"No person shall import, send, take or transport
. into such province any intoxicating liquor.
"No person shall, either directly or indirectly, mantl-
e or sell, or contract or agree to manufacture
or sell, any intoxicating liquor to be unlawfully imported,
sent, taken or transported 'nto such province,
0"The carriage oi' importation of intoxicating liquor`s
- through such province shall only he by means of a
common carrier by water or by railway and not other-
wise, and during the time any intoxicating Iiquor is be-
ing so transported or carried no person shall open or
break or allow to Ise opened or broken, any package or
vessel containing such int,xieating liquor, or drink, or
use or allow to be drunk 0, used any intoxicating liquor
therefrom."
NOTE. -This law does not prohibit importation of liquors
to ba used for sacramental, medicinal, manufacturing or com-
