NEXT Tuesday evening Secretary
Morrison will address a public meeting
in the interests of the U. F. O. in the
Town Hall, Brussels, commencing at 8
o'clock. He is a good speaker and will
no doubt be greeted by a large audience.
A most successful Apron Social was
held at the commodious home of D. and
Mrs. Walker, Friday evening of last
week, under the auspices of St. John's
church. Program consisted of vocal
and ins'rurnental selections, aid literary
numbers, intermixed ewith social chat,
games, &c Financial proceeds totalled
$85.00. Mr, and Mrs. Walker were
heartily thanked for throwing opeu their'
hospitable home.
AT the close of the prayer meeting in
Melville church a week ago Mrs. Jessie
Kerr, wbo has removed from town to
Toronto, as presented wit a fine Club

bag and a number of pieces of ebony by
friends in the congregation Allan
Lamont gave a very suitably address ex-
pressing thanks to Mrs Kerr for her
long years of splendid ..ork as Primary
teacher in the Sunday School, the En-
deavor and numerous other departments
of church work, and wishing her many
happyan usefulyearsin the Queen

city. Miss Helen Kyle presented the
gifts. Mrs. Kerrsympatbetically replied
m well ebosett words, heartily thanked
the people for their kindness and wished
the cause prosperity. She would never
forget Brussels. Rey, and Mrs. Mann
also offered expressions of kindly regard
good wishes and hoped others would
rise up to follow the noteworthy
example set by Mrs. Kerr and the Ross
family,
MRS, JNO, WRIGHT GOES To HER RE-
WARD —Peacefully carne the close of a
battle royal for life.to Mrs. John Wright,
passing; away at her home, Mill street
early Monday morning, Sbe was 58
years of age. 9 weeks ago she took 'ill
but although her case looked serious
from the stent sbe tenacionsly held on
to life and many hoped she would he
able to pull through,. She was a kind-
hearted, industrious woman, a good
wife and a devout Christian whose
voice was often beard in prayer, testi•
m0ny and song in the Methodist church
of which she was a'faitbtul member,
The funeral took place Tuesday after-
noon to Brussels cemetery. Rev. W. E
Stafford, assisted by ReV, A J. Mann,
conducted a suitable service et the
borne. Pallbearers were J. Fox, A.
'J'homson', W. Gillespie, John Simmons,
Alf. Dennison and las. Ballantyne.
The floral tributes were beautiful: Mr,
Wright is deeply sympathised with in
the loss of bis faithful life partner,

DOUBLE BEREAVEMENT.— CondnetOr
Wm Halfpenny's many friends will
sympathize with him in the death of bis
Elder brother, the late S. J. Halfpenny,
of Brockville, which took place Wednes-
day, fats. /9th, Following that of his wife
on Monday morning. Mr. Halfpenny
was notified of his brother's illness and
left at once to be with him. When he
arrived he was bortified to learn thst his
sister -in -low had passed away on Mon-
day at the hospital ltnd his brother bed
just breathed his lest shortly before his
arrival. Pneumonia was the cause of
death in each case, Mrs Halfpenny hav•
ing, it is supposed, contracted the
disease white 10 attendance on her hus-
band and was taken to the hospital, only
to receive a call in advance of him.
A
grown tip family survive. The funeral
took the Form of s double one, when
husband and wife were laid side by side
in the Brockville cemetery.

spent Tuesday evening at the Social in
the lecture room of the Methodist

HORTICULTURAL.— The executive of
Brussels Horticultural Soclety met Mon-
day evening in the Board room of the
Pablic Library, Mrs. J. D, Warwick,
President, in the chair. After minutes ,
were adopted a letter was read from W.
Harty, Sesforth. well known 10 ninny of
our readers, offering to give an illustrat-
ed address in Brussels on Horticulture.
