Coming to The Grand. - "The Fair Co-ed" which comes to tho Grand on Monday and Tuesday Marion Davies gives to the picture - going world a screen version of an- other famous stage play. This is the third stage play which has been used as a Marion Davies vehicle during the last year. The first was "The Red Mill" the second was "Quality Street". In "The Fair Co-ed" which Is directed by Sam Wood, Marion has the role of an American co-ed. It -is the first film the screen has ever pre- sented where the story was treated solely from the woman's angle. Johnny Mack Brown, former football hero, is seen in the leading ]vale role. The cast also includes: Jane Winton, Thelma Hill, Lilliane Leighton, Gene Stone and others. Wet Pair and Flowing Creels. Listowel Standard - That a wet sheet and s flowing sea is not always correct was proven on Tuesday morning last when the son of John' Thibideau, horse and wagon, slipped ofr the edge of the town dump near Sangster's mill, into the Maitland river which was at high water owing to the recent rains. The young lad i had- taken a -load of ashes to the dump and on driving nb too close to the edge the horse lost his footing and plunged into the icy waters tak- ing the boy and wagon with him. An alarm which was immediately sent down town was nobly responded to by the Bailiff of the 6th Division Court and our notable Chief of Pol- lee. The horse was unhitched from the wagon and the Chief and the L'ail fr acted as a reception commit - Mt on the opposite bank where the boy and horse landed. No one were any the worse of the experience ex- cept for a ducking in the icy waters. The wagon was drawn up on Teddy Firmer by the aforemehtioned- par- ties. - - Successful Mock Trial. The Y. P. S. social in Melville church on Tuesday night, featured by the Mock Trial, "The Great Ker- shaw Pumpkin Cae," was a great succiea and a large audience enjoy- ed the various numbers to the high- est degree. Musical numbers by Mrs, .king and Miss Jean Stewart, and Arch. Ballantyne, along with quaint folk dancing by Nancy Fow- ler and Marguerite Logan, preceded the big legal tilt of the evening. This farcical trial over a pumpkin vine, which outgrew its own plantation in- to an adjacent farmer's land, kept i 4he audience in continual merriment and produced more laughter than Harold Lloyd in one of his screen comedies. The plaintiff in the case, Hiram Guff (D. Ms McTavish) sued the defendant, Abner Muff (Rev. F. Just 1f Honey Sandwich Club BOYS and GIRLS: - You, no doubt read of the "Just Kids Safety Club" and which I hope you are a member. Why not. also have a "Just Kids Honey Sandwich Club?" I will explain. For a long time I have had a conviction that those who take their dinner to school would fare bet- ter if they at least had one' sandwich made of bread, butter and honey. I have another conviction, the habit once formed would 'be of lasting benefit, for there is no more whole - seine sweet than good honey. By joining this club you have all to gain and nothing to lose. You first of all buy a 5 lb pail al honey for 70e or a 10 lb for $1.35 and you get FREE, a bottle: of our honey priced at 17c. The bottle when empty will be just the thing to be fill- ed with something to drink, prefer- ably milk. The other condition 's that you will take a honey sandwich for twenty consecutive school days. Then besides this 17e bottle, the first three members to join will also get at 22c bottle free„ Then we purpose giving a 5 Ib pail of honey to the member of the club who will send in the lust sati1actor•y Mogan about honey sandwiches. Then nt next Fall Fair we will give 0 prise for the best honey sandwiches made with our hones by member: of the club. Fowler) when the wonderful pumpkin mysteriously disappeared, though it latter developed that the highly prized squash 'had been de voured by a cow of a prosecution witness (Burton Macdonald.) The jury consisting of both sexes, which was one of the high lights of the trial. found this witness and his cow guilty, though no charge had been laid against ,them. Notwithstanding their verdict, Judge A. A. Lamont assessed the defendant $175 dama- ges, and awarded the jury 15 cents per day for walking expenses. The two wrangling lawyers in the case were Dr. C. C. Ramage and Ken- neth Ferguson, the former rendering a self-composed'recitation, bemoan- ing the incompetency of legal institu- tions and customs of today in com- parison to former years.
