Wide Scope
Ti. t•rn•,rnyn - will, - moreover, be

will claim that this church is carry-

relative to its strength, than sen:
before, including:: an interest in
many of the diverse human element-
in our varied population from coast
to coast, both of English speech and
of non -Saxon stock. Ukrainians and
Hungarians, Scandinavians and Ther -

missions will indicate Presbyterian

SPRING AND SUMMER
CARE 1.J' F TFIE ORCHARD
I During the last three or four years
there has been a markl:cl revival in
interest in apple growing in the
County of Iluron. Ftu'mers are re-
ai•;:rtttT that i1, order to have matkrt-
abil. fruit, the nreliard should ro-
ta]; \ 0
e-een0 al Aa.at the arm:: care and Ono
21:+ any other farm crop. As a 0•'011
We notice all through the county a
large number of orchards from
trilich the dead wood, surplus hran-
thes and sucker growth are being
thoroughly pruned.
It is t( very good plan at this time
to :.cranes
oR the loos oars, of the
trunk; and larger branches with a
floe as the codling worms and other
insects amend a part or their lives in
suchsheltered places. Where orch-
ards are cultivated, it is advisable to
p i begin cultivation as soon as possible
in the spring so that moisture will
be retained, and an early start for
quick early growth assisted. It is
economy to use the disc where the
land is not too heavy 01' stony, 011
where a thick crop has not to be
worked in. Cultivation should cease
not later than the midate of June to
prevent danger of late growth.
In this country where we are not
bothered with the San Jose Scale,
the early dormant spray of Lime
Sulphur 1-7 is now generally omitted
except in orchards where the Oyster:
Shell Scale is very abundant. -
It has been found that a spray
should be applied about the time
w]len the buds on most varieties have
clearly burst if the scab is to be 0011 -
trolled, This is called the Early
Leaf or Pre -Pink Spray. It is ap-
plied at the rate of Lime Sulph'ir 1-
40 or Bordeaux 3-0-40. The object
of this spray is to cover the tips of
the blossoms and the young leaves
