,-tory by Hal G. Evarts has been
made into a thrilling screen drama
by C. Gardner Sullivan In the rote,
of Don Carver, a wind -bitten "tnm-
blewl rd" --a roving cowboy and
Mange boss of the Rax K Range,
13111 Hart is cast in a part that is
ideal for his particular type of char-
acter. Lovable, fearless, '4.1Ldelc to
fe:ht in' defense of the dntr.',sse'1 or
in vindication of his idea of homer;
strong in his love and imbued with
the true American spirit ---the spirit
of the, west --he mover', a powerful
and commanding figure, through a
drama that is epic in quality and
strong 1.41 suspense and human inter-
est. There is plenty of comedy, but
over. all broods that spirit of bigness,
the dust of the wagon wheels that
presages the incoming of the home-
seekers; the thrill of vast throngs of
moving people, animals and vehirle;l,
is epoch-making. It is a spirit that
will grip every staunch -hatted man
or woman, for it is .filled with the
great basic thought—the structural
idea—the home. Ring 13aggeot, in
his direction, never lost sight 01' this
and Bill Hart as Don Carver stands
out OA a veritable spirit of the time,
a symbol of nation building. Never
has 13111 Hart done harder riding;
quicker shooting, more strenuous
fighting. His role calls for action
and more action. The cowboy, the
real American cowboy- of reality and
romance, has never been better ex-
emplified upon the screen then in
"Tumbleweeds" which comes to the
Grand Theatre Friday and Saturday,

The Masked Bride.
Mae Murray, Glancing beauty, is a
study in evolution. On the. stage, a
beautiful butterfly, then, on the
set'cen, the same, gradually becoming
known as a dramatic actress of won-
derful emotional possibiliti.s. Now
comes "The Masked Bride," her (te.
rational story of the Paris under-
world, playing at the Grand Theatre:
next Monday and Tuesday. It pre-
sents a new Mac Murray—perhaps
the ultimate Mae Murray, although
snrh a thing he hard to :fathom, in
view of sash surprises as "The, MOT -
re Widow." The ,"tory, a gorgeous
Metro -Goldwyn -Mayer production,
directed by, Christy Cabanno, is a
dramatic episode in which a groat
love and an Apache plot are set amid
fol'geons cafes, glittering peleces,
and sinister undel'worlrlhaunts. Miss
Murray flits through, a creature of
wonderful beauty, in glittering
gowns, Glaring snmctitnes, but always
beautiful, Then—in a trice ---she
drops this role and does some acting
so .remarkable that she holds iter
audience breathless. This is the
strange versatility of Mae Murray.
A great east appears. Francis X.
Bushman makes an imposing hero,
and Roy D'Arcy, the Crown Prince
of The Merry Widow" has a great
role as the sativc Prefect of Police. •
Hart Dane, Basil Rathbone as a

The Late Mrs. William Grainm,
The New Outlook, of t" 'll, 9th,
published the following tribes,• to a
former resident of this town:•- -T A• is
passed away at the beginning' of the
year 011e whose heart was always
open to every need in the 114.44 o.l
those about her, Jennie Graham, wife
of Dr. William Graham, Toronto,
formerly of Brussels, Ontario. While
at the latter place she was '1'rea.ur(11•
of Maitland Presbyterial for rainy
years, organist and choir leader in
Melville Church, and actively e11 -
gaged in 'many other phases of
church and community work. Later
when Toronto became her home, Mrs,
Graham threw -herself whole -hearted -
1y into the work of social service.
She was President of the (Ieesby-
Milan) Social Service Association
until its absorption into another
branch of the work, and only those
who have tvorke(1 side by side with
her can know anything of the never -
miffing labor of love which oerupie(1
her clays. She was one of the most
sincere of women, no wea't senti-
mentalist, but one whose practical
helping hand and enduring friendship
never failed. She believed with all
her heart in "follow-up" service. She
kept in close touch with reforms and
talose who introduced them, and her
presence in prisons and at court in
the interests of her humble friends
often turned the tide he their favor
and gave them a fresh lease of life.
Home and purse were open to. all
who needed, for she saw in the poor,
the tempted, the mentally (Iefieient,
victims of eireumstances who requir-
ed more than anything else care and
sympathetde service. The motto of
that association with which she was
so long connected was "Others," end
Mas. Graham lived up to it every
day of her busy life, putting ire prat-
tice in her own way the religion of
her Master.
