John D. Ronald Sleeks Away.
- Mrs. W. M. Sinclair received word
on Setun lay' that her lattice, John
D. Ronald, had passed away in Ham-
ilton, death having come peacefully
while. a:deep. The late, Mr. Ronald

built the Foundry, where the cream-
ery now stands, and commenced the

gine, which was the first steam fire
engine in Canada, a machine which
came into use in every province of
the Dominion. For the Renate fire
engine, the originator was the reci-
pient of two medals at Philadelphia.
Another medal was won at the
World's Fair in Chicago in 1893 and

born in Paisley, Scotland, 95 years
ago, and came to America at the age
of 18, settling in Detroit, later mov-
ing to Chatham where he was a par-

well as steamboats, passenger, freight
and tugs, About 17 years ago Mr.
and Mrs, Ronald moved to Stratford
to reside where Mrs. Ronall died 13
years ago. He is survived by two
daughters, Mrs. (Rev.) •Cluff, Strat-
ford, and Mrs. W. M. Sinclair, Brus-
eels, and three sisters, Mos, Massey;
of California; Mrs, Adam, of Chi -
"ago, and Mrs. Hunter, of Rothesey,
Seattend, The funeral was held on
Monday afternoon, a private service
being'held at the home of his dough -

A Two -Day Conference.
Everybody interested in decreas-
ing farm production costs and in-
rrnasing crop production will wel-
come the news that Messrs. McIntyre
& Cucl'more, local Ford dealers, in
conjunction with the Power Farming
Division of the Ford Motor Company
of Canada, Limited, and the Oliver
Chilled Plow Company, are opening
a two day Power Farming Confer-
ence here. The conference will be
held at Brussels on January 10, 20,
from 1.80 to 5.00 pan. each after-
noon, and it has as its objective the
discusion of ways and means of pro-
ducing more at less cost, at the same
time making farming in this vicinity
mere pleasuraibe. Owing to the un-
precedented success of these con-
ferences 'last year the program has
been considerably enlarged and the
services of several good speakers
have been secured. The subjects :for
rliscusison include "Power Farming,"
"Preparation of the Seed Bed,"
"Conserving Soil Moisture,' and
local problems, A Very zine series
of motion pictures will be shown to
insure the speakers' discussions p0 -
trig clearly understood, A most nov-
el film is that which depicts the ac-
tual growth of the tiny plant roots
in the soil and it is the first picture
of its kind to be produced, The
program will terminate with an in-
teresting course on the care and
handling of the Fordcon Tractor.
