the picnic, at the lakeside, on Friday,

A very pleasant gathering was held
at the re-creation park, Bayflelcl, on
Monday, August 2istl, when four gen-
erations of the Machan family met
times for a family picnic. The weath-
er was ideal, and there were 100 pres-
ent from Wset Monkton, Hetssall,
Moncrieff, Londesboro, Blyth, Walt -
in, lbxeter and Chatham, Dinner
Was salved at 12 o'clock, and the aft-
ernoon MIS occupied with games of
softball. A varied program of races
afforded pleasure for young and old,
with a peanut scramble for the little
folk. Several of those present availed
themselves of the opportunity of a
slip in the lake and semiotic games,
while others enjnyed a sail on the
blue waters of Lake Huron. When.
eventide carne, bringing with it the
close of a perfect day, a final, happy
touch was another beautiful repast.

Park, passed off very suecessfully.

men's series, Monkton won fleet prize
and Willowgrove 2nd. In the girls'
series. Moticrieff won let prize and
Brussels girls won 2nd prize. Foot
races were rim off later in the day.
In the evening, the Schubert Concert
00., of London, gave a fine program,
and a dancing pavilion was kept go-
ing by the younger crowd.

The funeral of Mary A. Searlett,
an esteemed resident of AleKillop,
and wife of John G. Grieve, whose
death accursed on Tuesday, August
10th, Lu her 08th year, took 'piece
from her late residence, on the llth
Concession of McKillop, on Thursday.

second daughter of the late Samuel
Scarlett, respected pioneer resident of
111 eKillop. She was married about
40 yeats ago to John G. Grieve and
went to reside on their faint in the
same Township where she spent the
etuaiudvr of het. life. She had been
in ill -health for the pest four years
and was a patient eufferer. Mrs.
Grieve was an honored member of
Winthrop 'United °hutch, For 23
years, she filled the position of Sem-
trey of the Women's Missionary
Soesety, very faithfully and efficient-
ly. She was also a life member of the
society. The service was conducted
by her pastor, Res. J. A. Ferguson.
Besides her husband, she is survived
by an only sots, W. T. Grieve, of De -
