stockings on Christmas Eve.
To the blase businessman and the
worried housewife busy with the de-
mands of intricate business deals or
the needs of a household, the merry
chatter and laughter of the little ones
as they discussed the merits of the
fair or dark haired little goddesses
holding brief reign within the con•
lines of the store window came almost
as welcome as a shower of rain after
weeks of drought.
For the instant, businessman and
housewife were wafted back to the
days when they, too, were kiddies and
made up lists of what they wanted
dear old Santa to place in their little
socks Memories of the thrills that
useed to run down their spines as.
clad in their little nighties, they set
li
out long before daylight streaked the
eastern sky to explore the depths of
their stockings. Back came memories
of the yells of delight as the much -de-
sired doll, engine, sled, or little tea
services, or baseball, mitt was found,
and toddling back to their beds they
passed the hours of semi -darkness
cuddled in the warts bed clothes
consenting the candles, oranges and
other delectables that the merry saint
had lett behind during the mysterious
midnight hours.
Brief though the dream and rough-
ly though it was broken by tate racket
of the street, each wentt heir way de
termined that they at least would see
that such little ones as they could
insure 0l a visit from Santa Claus
should know like joy with themselves
tiselves
even if it were necessary to hunt for
somebody else's kiddies to fill the
bill.

DANGER THREATENS
EVERY MOTORIST
With the approach of inclem=-
tut weather motorists are clean-
ing out the garage preparatory
to spending their time fixing
and tinkering with the car with-
in the cosy walls. There is a
danger involved which is all the
more to be guarded against be-
cause of its insidious character.
When any gasoline engine is
operated within an enclosed
haus
space the exhaust gases accum-
ulate. Included in the many
substances exhausted is a deadly
poisonous„gas, carbon monoxide
p
This 'gas is ordorless and color-
less and its effect is sudden.
The victim experiences no i11 -
effects and suddenly falls in a
faint, and if not immediately re-
moved to the fresh air death is
certain.
Precautions should always be
taken to see that there is suf-
ticient ventilation, A better plan *
is to lend the exhaust, by an m
additional pipe, outside the gar- '”
age, "
