The W. M. S. at their December
meeting, assisted hy all the women of
the church, hi ought fruit, cakes, can-
dy, butter and goodies of all kinds to
send a Christmas dinner to the Res-
cue Home, Totouto, presided civet' by
Miss Rata, who lately gave a splen-
did address here on her work. W. 0,
Neal kindly packed the box,
'1'he work of improving the interior
of Duff's church was carried out with
a zest hast week that completed the
job. in first -clava 1 style in 4 days.
80 quarto of paint were applied on the
walla, buff in the auditorium and
cretun in the basement, The general-
ship of Rev, Me, Lundy was excellent
and the corps of helpers worked with
neatness and dispatch and did a good
job. It was an object lesson worth
while and is a decided improvement.

held Sunday in Duff's church, Rev,
Dr, Larkin, Seaforth, occupying the
pulpit. His themes were "Progress"
and "The Mind of Christ," from which
splendid sermons were preached. Of-
fering was 893400. Choir rendered
choice music. Monday evening the
entertainment was A 1, Jessie Alex,
ander, the well known reader, of Tor-
onto, was et her best anti all the talent

in Scotland and came to Canada when
8 years old. In her earlier years she
lived at Brneefleld and was a great
admirer of Rev. Mr. Rose, the well
known Presbyterian divine of that

band who died over 20 years ago,
For many years she was a minister-

Good Book and died in the Faith. A
favorite expression of hers was -Nu

is for all mankind, The funeral ser-
vice was conducted by her pastor,
Rev. Mr, Kennedy, and burial was
made in Knox church cemetery here.
Pallbearers were Ches. Alderson, Jus.
and Alex, Perrie, John Perrie, Ja'n
Cameron, John Stehle and John Hun,
ter, Thus has passed off the sense of
action one who has served her day
and generation loyally, loved her
Saviour with implicit confidence and
thought not of herself when opportun-
ity to tender service to the needy
cause to her, Her name and kindly
womanly life will long be remembered
by many who esteemed her highly.

was well exemplified in the interesting
life and early, but peaceful, death of
Mies Lizzie Strachan, daughter of the
late John and Mrs, Strachan. The
great summons came to Mies Lizzie
iu the early morning hours of Wed-
nesday, Dec. 15111, in answer to which

Redeemer's cleansing power. In her
early life she consecrated herself to
the service of her Master and lived a
consistent, exemplary Christian life.
For a number of years she had not
enjoyed the robust health her many
friends would have liked, but in the
luidst of it all she waged a brave
struggle, even when the outlook was
such as would greatly discourage a
lees heroic life. She was a qualified
school teacher but her delicate consti-
tution ptoveulea her from practicing
the profession she so dearly laved,
Being a wide and studious reader she
possessed an unusually clear intel-
ligence, always able to eon Verse in-
struct.ively nn all the leading topics.of
the day. She took nut earnest and de-
voted part in all the activities of Mel-
ville church, of which for many years
she hay been a consistent and faithful

REWARD,-- After being in failing
health for the past year Elizabeth A,
Fox, beloved wife of Jno. Bray, an-
swered the Great Ball Call Thursday
morning of last- week- and passed
peacefully away to her reward. The
funeral took place Saturday to
Wroxeter cemetery after a suitable
-
service at the late home of deceased
by her pastor, Rev. W. E. Stafford,
Brueeele. Pallbearers were 8 ue-
phews :-Wilbett, Jno. Id, and Cran-
ston Bray, Arthur Ward, Fred. -ester
and Percy Tyerman. The subject of
this notice was born in Charlottetown,
Prince Edward Island, 75 years ago
and came West to Walton to visit her
sister, Mrs. (Rev.) Sabine, where she
was married to ber now bereft part-
ner 38 years ago. They lived at
Wroxeter, Stony Oreek and Grey
township since then, coming to the
latter 2e years age. One son, Ernest,
was born to them. Mrs. Bray was a
fine Obristian woman, kind, thought-
fnl and ever ready to do her best.
She was a splendid worker in the
church and leaves many warm friends
who sympathise with the bereaved in
their sorrow. Deceased bore her ill-
ness with patience and resignation
and died in simple trust in the Saviour
she bad trusted for many a year.
Her sister, Mrs. Sabine, resides in
Hamilton.
LATE MIse ISABELLA RITCHIE.-On
November 25th, there passed away at
the Roeetown hospital, Sask., Isabella
youngest daughter of Peter and the
late Jane Ritchie, of Zelandia, Sask.
She had been ailing since early in Sep-
tember but nothing serious was Bus=
petted until 2 weeks previous to her
death, when her case was diagnosed
and she was
on the brain
as an abscess s
taken to the hospital. The consulting
physician advised an operation as her
only chance but she never regained
consciousness after the operation.
Her presence, help and cheerfulness
in the house and community will be
sorely Linseed. Funeral service was
conducted in the home by Rev. F.
Chilton, pastor of Zelandia and Muir -
land Presbyterian congregations and
was largely attended by friends and
neighbors of the family. Pallbearers
were T. T. McDonald, W. G. Gould,
Blake Brown, M. V. NcLeod, Gordon
S. Douglas and Ernest McMillan. In-
termentwas made in Zelandia ceme-
tery, Miss Ritchie leaves to mourn
her loss 5 brothers (W. P., Portage la
Prairie, Man. ; David, James, and
Peter -,L., Zelandia DIstrict ; and Jno.,
of Walton, Ont.) 2 sisters (Misses
Mary and Jean at home) in addition to
the aged father. Deceased was born
in Blairgowrie, Perthshire, Scotland,
and came to Fergus, Ont., with the
family id her infancy. Later she re-
sided, 1000,at Brussels, when

the family removd to Saskatchewan.

Porter, 10th Con., whose death came
as a great shook to the community as
he wee as well ae usual up to Wednes-
day afternoon, when he took a pain
around his heart but not serious
enough to cause any alarm. He arose
as usual Thursday morning but passed
peacefully away at 8.80 a. in, The
subject of this notice is one of the
pioneers, coming to Grey in 1874 and
was united in marriage to Mary
Elizabeth Fox, his now bereft partner.
4 children were born into the home,
who along with the mother are 'left to
mourn the lose of a hind and loving
husband and father, Children are
Lloyd, who is at home ; Russel and
Elgin in the West and a daughter,
Mrs, Donald McTaggart, 10th Don,,
Grey township, Mr. Porter was a
Presbyterian in religion being a mem-
ber of the Cranbrook church forysare,

circle of friends and acquaintances

and Jlugh Porter, all of Atwood.
Surely in the midst of life we are in
death.
The concert held in Union S, S. No.
12 Grey and McKillop on Thursday
last was a decided success. Rev. Mr,
Lundy, Walton, occupied the chair
during the evening and a splendid
program wag given by the pupils
under the direction of the teacher,
Mies E, McMichael. Io addition
musical numbers and two playettes
were given by some of the adults in
the Section which were greatly ap-
preciated and also two solos by Mr.
Rowland and violin selections by
Messrs. Dodds and Grieve, Withrop,
and Mr, Ramsay, Walton, were en oy-
ed by all. The receipts at the door
amounted to $27,60
