A barn on the farm of Alex, Big -
gine, Howiek, wee totally destroyed
by lire with the season's crop, at 0
o'clock Tuesday evening. The fire
was caused by the upsetting of a lan-
tern on the barn floor.
The funeral of Bridget MacKnigftt,
relict of the late Patrick Meehan, who
died at the home 5f her son, Anthony
Meehan, of the J3elmore road, took
place to the R. 0. cemetery, 'Ceeswat-
e1', Friday morning. Deceased had
attained her IAOLit year and owing to
the infirmaries of old age had been
confined to bed for eevelal yeave.

favorably.
Reeve McNab is attending the Coun-
ty Council this week at Goderich,
Jno. Bray and family will move to
the farm recently purchased from Joe
Ames, 3rd Oon. We will be sorry to
see thein go as they have taken a deep
interest in
the Methodist church
and
Sunday School here. Mrs. Bray con-
tinues quite poorly, despite the means
used for her hoped improvement.

was still living.

to Jnn. Ilolger, a neighbor, for the sum
of $3,000. This gives the latter a fine
farm of 160 aurae now. Rey Bennett
bought the 32 acres South of the O. P.
R. From Mr. Smillie, paying $2,000 for
it. Mr. Smillie retains a tidy plot of
30 acres on which he and Mrs. Smillie
will continue to reside. He may have
an Auction Sale of farm stock, imple-
menta &c.

Reeve Elston is attending the dos-
ing session of the County Parliament
for 1920 at Goderich this week.
A new metallic roof has been placed
on the eilo at Alex. McLauchlin's,
East gravel road. He - also built a
small engine roots on the barn gang-
way for the gasoline engine which he
ulilizes for chopping, &c. He is com-
pleting the cement stalls, &c. in his
cattle stable and is getting things in
fate shape for comfort rnd sanitation.

week- a very enjoyable evening was
spent at the home of, J. W, and Mre,
Somers, 6th line, Grey, while celebrat-
ing their 255th anniversary, 90 guests
sat down to a well spread table of
everything that could be wished for.
Bride of 25 years ago looked very
charming in a gown of white eilk
trimmed with jet and pearls and wore
a wreath of orange blossoms in her
hair. A very enjoyable evening was
spent in music, songs, games and
dancing. Bride received a large table
of valuable presents, too numerous to
mention, After a very fine time the
guests retired to their respective
homes wishing Mr. and Mre. Somers
many years of health and happiness.

Lantern lecture in connection with
League Thursday was very instruc-
tive. Proceeds were given to Mis-
sions,

Saturday and the Statutory meeting
will be held on the following Wednes-
day.

day evening.

Public Library has been removed
from G. M. Mitcholl's store to the
rooms formerly occupied by the Har-
ness shop beside C. Cleaver's.
Basket Ball practise last Saturday

John Kreuter has sold his house and
lot to Ferris Beienes. Mr. Kreuter
has bought the lot of Grover Gill and
is moving in, while Mr. Gill is moving
to his house at the station.
The Bazaar held under the auspioee
of the Ladies' Aid of Methodist church
was very successful despite the in-
clemency of the weather. All the
goods for sale were practically dispos-
ed of and the proceeds totalled the fine
cum of $125.

night when the meeting will be in
charge of the Oitizenship Oommittee
instead of the Literary as announced
last week,
Duke's Players put on "Topsy Tm'-
vey" at Atwood this Friday evening,

The young people generously appro-
priated $80 out of the proceeds of the
entertainment bore to the lied Cross
funds, Miss Harn is the energetic
teacher' and has been heartily backed
up by a goodly number of the young
folk,

Mise Viola Mitchell has resigned her
position in Wm. Spence a grocery and
restaurant, We understand that Mies
Jean Meaay is going to fill the vac-
ancy.
Mies Bernice Cole, accompanied by
her sister, Mrs. Dougherty, went to
Toronto to consult a specialist con-
cerning the former's eyesight. We
hope good results will follow.
ENGAGEMENT.—Ml's, Sohn Mitchell,
of Lietowel, announces the engage-
ment of her daughter, Eva Beatrice,
to Wm. E. Brandon, Stratford, Ont„
marriage to take place in December.
David Sanders has purchased large
barns from Nelson Hayden, near
Jamestown, and M. MoVettie, 5th
line of Morris township, and is taking
them down and hauling the material
to his farm here to be rebuilt next
Spring to replace barns destroyed last
Fall by fire.

the subject "Resolved that good
roads are of more benefit than rail-
roads." John Pearson is leader of the
affirmative and A. H. MacDonald of
the negative. Special music and

The regular monthly meeting of
Brussels Oouncil was held last Mon-
day evening. All the members present
excepting Councillor Richards.
Minutes of last meeting were read
and passed.

Councillor Wilton reported that tem-
porary arrangement had been made
with A. Hislop, 14th Oon. Geey town-
ship, for the purchase of 10 sores of
bush, 26 inch hard wood at $3.00 per
cord will be paid and timber 4 inches
at butt be out into cordword at $3,00 -
per cord, a deposit to be made when
agreement was eigned.

Fraser that agreement be drawn up to
above effect and that men be employ-
ed at once to chop in bush. Carried.

Clerk Scott reported calling on the
Hydro Commissioners at Toronto who
stated little probability of Brussels
being served for another year. They
promised to write.
