AL'rllouoa the House of Lords has
been busy discussing the old question of
Home Rule for Ireland the program of
daily murders and burning of buildings
in the Emerald Isle appears to be con-
tinuing as lively as ever. Although the
jells are crammed there still seems to be
plenty abroad to continue the strife. It
looks to us that if the leaders do not
cease fomenting anarchy it is up to
the Empire to adopt a course that will
bring it to a" conclusion by a sterner
method than that adopted yet.
BENMILLER, Colborne township, is
leading the way in the matter of Con-
solidated Schools. They have chosen
the necessary trustees and intend re-
modelling their school after New Year's
and next mid -Summer will secure a new
teacher to take up High School work.
Their progress will be watched with in-
terest as so many sections appear to be
nervous about taking the plunge. There
is great necessity of some change being
brought about in same localities.
A certain King said the word Calais

WHAT rubbish to think tbat horse rac-

Two -Plow Tractors Best
Results of Open Contests Show Superiority of Smaller Types
both in Plowing Speed and Quality.
Contests during the past month
have proved beyond cavil the superior-
ity as a plowing power unit of the
two -plow tractor_.aver the three -plow
and leu ger types. The Open -for -all
Match at Montreal saw the best clown
and finish matte by a two -phew tree -
toe. At Hamilton no less than five
prizes out of six were won by Ford.
eons each pulling 14" bottoms.
If there wore no time limit set in
these oonteets, it might have been
argued that the fact of the winning
land being plowed by a two -plow
tractor was due to the superiority of
the individual plowman and to the
aulouut of time and care he had given
to the task. But in both cases there
was a time limit which Called for con-
siderable speed, and the remarkable
proof was provided that a small trac-
tor pulling two plows could, within
the same limit of time, plow an acre
equal to that covered b three and
fi,ur furrow tractors and Make a bet-
ter job of it, At Hamilton the five
wincing two -plow tractors used no
less than three different makes of
gangs.
The chief argument of the three -
plow tractor men has always been
etfperim' speed with equal quality to
the best of the two -plow tractors, no
further argument remains in their
favor.
As regards prime cost, fuel and
lubricant cost, depreciation and repair
cost, it goes without saying that the
two -plow tractor is cheaper than the
three-ptgW, A small light machine is
necessarily more flexible than a heavy
machine and more adapted to small
fields, It alert packs the soil less and
tivot•ks closer to the flees in orchard
wank,
Coming to belt power, we again find
the two -plow tractnr more ecnnoin-
ical. Tr,wtoe of 22 Belt H, P, will fill
a forty font silo a1' fast: as a. fainter
can haul corn for the cutting and will
handle as large a pain separator as
an individual farmer Can afford to
thresh with..
A two -plow tractor supplies ample
power for sates, pumps, feed grinders,
pulpers, electtin generators, waehing
machines, churns and 0101030 separa-
tors ran from a line oheft. A lheee-
plow tractor if run at its rated revolu-
tions, would expend more power than
is required with a consequent loss of
money whenever operated.
For road hauling the WHEELED
types of two -plow tractors Have no
nser. They .lelight
to cross
flimpsy farm bridges, cause little wear
to road surfaces and can haul twice as
much as a teats at twice the speed.
Any larger loads would merely prove
a detihnent to the comfort of the
travelling public,
There are other arguments connect-
ed with lumbering, concrete mixing
and various industries which ebuld be
elaborated in favour. of two -plow
tractors, but those already given
make strong enough evidence to pre-
sent to a Power Panning jury.
The court in any case is prejudiced,
for, from the 256 types of 'tractor nn
the market, the majority of power
users have already chosen the leading
two -plow tractor as their purchase,
