Fire at 0. Ewan's Shops
Monday night about 12 o'clock the
fire bell woke up our resideuts as flee
was discovered in the Ewan block or
buildings and had attained consider-
able headway in the South Easterly
paint room when observed by Grant
Fraser. Soon the fire engine was
got out and ready hands began re-
moving the stock and plant from the
building. Thanks to a calm night,
the fact of brick walls and good work
by the Brigade the devouring element
was confined to
the department ib
commenced in downstairs n
e
toits show room
and blacksmith shop. How fire start-
ed ie a mystery as Mr. Ewan says
there was no stove in that locality,
Insurance may possibly provide for
the rebuilding and necessary -repairs
lana this work will proceed at once
if weather permits. Itis hoped they
will be able to get roof on the burned
portion. The destruction of the block
would have been a very serious loss to
the proprietor and made an undesired
blank at that corner, Mr. ]lwan
wishes to heartily thank the Brigade
and a host of willing workers who
labored so industriously •to save his
property. The public sympathise with
him in his lase.
