Garden Parties was held at the :com-
modious grounds of Garner and etre,
Nicholson, 14 miles East of here,
Thursday evening of last week, under
the auspices of the Belgrave C. 0. F.,
and was attended by an immense
crowd. The home and grounds were
neatly decorated with flags and
Messrs. Brnneden & McGowan,,,,Blyth,
illuminated the place by one of their
35 light plants of the Northern Power
& Light Oo, A procession was form-
ed at the 4th line corner anti lead by
Wingham Band made their way to
the scene of operations. Crowd was
no name for the attendance as from
near and far they crane to:enjoy the
fine evening. No less tban 126 autos
were counted in addition to scone of
buggies. After a fine supper had
been served from tallies on the lawn,
during which choice music was sup
plied by the Band, a musical and Rev-
ery prograul waspt'esented as follows,

Anthem. A refreshment booth! did a
"roaring" brethren, The proceeds of
the evening totalled the magnificent
sum of $426.00, which will be applied
on the debt on the O. 0. F. Hall,
which was occasioned by the enlarge-
ment and improvement of the build-
ing. Mr. Nicholson has them all
beaten as an erthnsiastic host and
anything he tackles has to go with a
big G. He has an ideal spot for such
a gathering and knows how to boost.
Many a good time has been spent at
the Nicholson home.

We are sorry to hear that neither

Davidson, the latter being their
daughter, are very well. Mr. Telfer

fer has trouble with one of her feet,

Carter, son of Albert Can ter, of Ed
monton. It is 13 years since the
family moved West. The visitor is a
locomotive engined' 00 the 0. P. R.
for the past 11 years and evidently
the jnh agrees well with him judging
by appear tutees. Ire is not married so
as this is leap year the girls have a
chance, only it will require to be done
expeditiously, 0s his stay will not be
very long.

The choir Concert held in Union
church Tuesday evening of last week
was a good one. In addition to the
Maitland Henry Concert Company,
who did their part splendidly, num-
bers were given by Mrs. Omstead and
Gen. Evans and the choir, Financial

was chairman and gave a reading.
There were 2 dialogues and 2 readings
by members of the choir and all did

MRS SRO, I3ALLANTYNE (IALLED.—
A. former old resident of this locality,
in the person of Mrs, John Ballan-
tyne, passed away at the home of her
son, Win, J., at Flint, Mioh., ;on July
30thn, in her 73rd year. She had a
stroke of paralysis on July 9th, effec-
ting her eft side feoni which she
gradually weakened until the end
carne. Everything that was possible
in medical skill and nursing care was
seetu'ed but without avail. Deceased
was born in Oxford County, Ont., but
from her girlhood she lived in Huron
County. For years the family lived
in this locality, They moved front the
neigborhnod to Flint in 1915 and Mr.
Ballantyne died 4 years ago. Funer-
al of Mrs. Ballantepe took place Mon-
day, 2nd inst,, to Grace Lawn ceme-
tery. She is survived by two sone,
David and W. J., both of Flint, who
will share in the sympathy of many
olci friende in the loss of their mother.
Mts. Ballantyne was a kind. neighbor-
ly, industrious woman and a faithful
member of the Presbyterian church,

The remains were brought to Wing -
ham on Friday, accompanied by Mr.
and Mrs. Mckenzie and Miss Mc-
Lean, and the funeral took place on
Sunday afternoon from the reeidenoe
of R. S. McGee, to the Wingham
eemsteey and was largely attended.
Services at the truuse and grave were
conducted by Rev. H. A. Gollan,
South Kinloss, who was supplying in
St. Andrew's Church for the day.
Pallbearers were the 8 brothers named
above and 3 nephews, W. J. Geddes,
Belgrave ; Robt, Geddes, Morris and
D. Geddes, Londesboro. •

Thursday afternoon and evening of
last week was the day chosen by the
Committee for the opening of the
3 acre Park, purchased from George
McKay, and designed to be a mem-

the Baseball match and races took
some time, A Jazz Band from Buf-
falo (3) was present to make fun for
the visitors.
The supper was excellent. There
surely was both quantity and qualit
and several baskets of fragments eft
after the multitude were fed. Supper
was served 011 the school grounds,
The Park was decorated witin flags,
with a large "Welcome" exult over
the gateway.
A lively Base Bali snatch was staged
between Mnnktan team and a local 9
and although the visitors ran away in
the score there was good sport, and
full of interest to the crowd. Result
was 18 to 11. Wes, Armstrong, Brus-
seta, was umpire.

Monorieff lined up and after a lively
battle the Northerners were victorious
