The case was the third on the County Court list before Judge Dickson at Godericb. The other charge, of stealing flax from the Huron Flax Mills Company, Limited, in which the grand jury also brought in a true bill, was withdrawn by the crown, Charles Garrow and Crown Attorney Seeger prosecuted, and J. Best, Sea- forb appeared for the defendant. Sev- eral witnesses were at Godericb from Brussels. The former's daughter, Miss Hazel, is the Primary teacher there and Mr. Lott, aaho was a former pupil, has a brother attending. THE Nsw REc'roi,-A few personal words by THE Pos'r referring to Rev, R. D, Mess, the newly appointed rector of St, John's church, Brussels, will not be out of place at this juncture. He was born in London, England and came to Canada in 1912going to British Columbia. 41 years were spent in the late war, going with the 7th C. M, R's London, Ont„ where be was attending Huron College. He was 31 years in connection with the sth C. M. R. over- seas and was a platoon Sergeant, seeing very active duty in many of ttie battles in Belgium and ,France. Twice ke was wounded, the 2nd time 3 clays before the armistice was proclaimed, when near Mons• Iu 1916, at the Ypress salient, Sergeant Mess was awarded a military medal for con. spicuous bravery. On returning frons the war heresumed his atudies gradeatc- ing a few weeks ago, During his col- lege d.,ys he supplied at Bayfield, Luc - an and Haltnesville at various periods. The reverend gentleman is a member of the Masonic Order, and the L. O. L. and indulges in foot ball and other sports as a pastime. Gazzolo, Los, Angeles, Cal , and Mrs, Chas, Farrow, Toronto, were here Thursday of last week calling on old friends, It is nearly 38 years since. the former left town and iu his rambles he has made good, bringing up in Toronto where he carried on a successful busi- ness. His sister was also a former resi- dent of;towu, when Miss Mary; J Kuox. Their father and uncle lived in town and are remembered by the older residents.
