Home Helpers' Secretary reported there were 475 Horne Helpers with a total offering of $412, an increase of 107 members and $207 over last year. Messenger Secretary reported the number of subscribers to the 1'desseng- er during the year Was 019, an in- crease of 103 and the amount paid $230. Secretary of Supplies reported all the auxiliaries had sent good bales of clothing for the Portage La Prairie Boarding School, at a total value of $640 and also had sent useful articlea for the cots in ()enure Hospital, to the value of $153,00. Several Mission Bands had contributed various articles, such as scrap books, pictures and quilts. Secretary requested that a list of the articles and their value be enclosed in each bale and a duplicate sent to her by mail with the bill of lading from the railway, We don't like to give up backing old Ireland in many things but the program of the Emerald Isle has evidently been framed in a lunatic asylum and can ,neon nothing but bloodshed and dis- order, Somebody has said "The pro. verbial Irisbman is never at Peace only when he is at war" and the fellow was not much of a joker either. If sterner measures have to be used in the Green isle it will not be a very difficult task to place tbe blame. The powers that be in England have been very patient but there will come a finis to pacific treat- ment to the discomfiture of those who are now defiant as to law and order, Ireland why won't you be good ? CANADA is aroused as never before by the new legislation proffered by the Dominion Government to raise income. The proposal to get out of debt is a good one but a policy of retrenchment should accompany it. Taxing the ordinary necessities of life as a poor way to help the people or encourage them to praise this wonderful land, We are surprised at tbe docility of the M, P's who are in Parliament to represent the people and not to serve their political party or allow treasures to be passed that will put a strangle•bold on the taxpayer. It is surely time fora change of Government, The worry that business people will be under in the proposed tariff will be enough to either drive them out of serving the public or send them to the lunatic asylum, Di- rect taxation Is evidently the high water mark of the Finance Minister and those who will support the =insure outlined. Tbere'ts a rod in pickle for the repre- sentatives wbo shirk doing tbeir ditty to the taxpayers at this stage of our his- tory. EAST HURON WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
