dence of nearly 3 years) to Port Rowan,
their new charge, on Lake Erie shore,

E'S DEBT.
--Tuesday of last week, at 4 p m., a
fine man in the person of Thos. David-
son passed away very peacefully at the
home os his son, Juo. L. Brussels, being
conscious to the last. He caught cold
a,J mouths ago in moving from the farm
to Brussels and never regained his usual
vigor, his heart being the weak spot
latterly. The funeral took place Fri-
day, list inst., public service being held
in Melville ehureh, six of the sons bear-
ing the casket. Rev, A. T. Maim, de-
ceased's pastor, assisted by Rev. R. A,
Lunday, Walton, conducted the service,
which was attended by a large number
of ol.1 friends. Interment was made in
Brussels cemetery, Mr. Davidson was
born in Scarboro township, York Coun-
ty, 00 Jan. 28. 134:1, and on Mar. 3r, 1865
deceased and Mss Christiana Lambie
were married in Scarboro. They were
the parents of s sons and 3 dattghters,
all of whom are yet alive, the youngest
being the father of g children, g of
family were born on the farm in Scar-
boro, and a of them after moving to a
farm on Con. It, Grey twp., where they
continued to reside until last Winter,
when they removed to Brussels having
sold their farm. 2 years ago when they
celebrated their Golden Wedding, there
were to grandchildren, and now there
are 17. The children are :—James and
Will., Stratford ; Jno., Rob., David and
Frank, Brussels; Thos„ Weyburne,
Sask. ; Joseph, London ; Mrs. Bennett,
Forget, Sask. ; Miss Mary, Brussels ; and
Miss Bessie, Winnipeg. All were here for
the funeral excepting Mrs. Bennett and
Thos„ Miss Bessie arriving the night
before the .funeral. Mr. Davidson
buught the home of the Misses Hunter,
John street, and intended moving into it
next Fall but he has been called to a
Better Home. From early childhood he
wac allied to the Presbyterian church
and his seat was seldom vacant when
able to get there, On different occa-
sions he served the church as an office
holder. IIe was an honest, industrious
man, quiet in his manner and was bell
in high esteem by all who knew him.
One brother survives. He was able to
attend the funeral although well up to-
ward the 8o mark. Mrs. Davidson and
the other members of the family share
in the sympathy of the neighborhood in
the death of a true husband and kind
father.

SPEAKING about good cows Councillor
Stewart, of Brussels Butter Factory,
tested the milk from 1), M, Scott's fine
Guernsey, "Geneve of Herviegen,”
Which recorded 8,9 butter fat. He says
this is the best record he ever met, al-
though he was official tester for 4 years.
Mr. Scott brought this thoro' bred with
him from Michigan and she has the
quality all right. •

held iu Wingham Wednesday of last
week. S. Wilton, M. Black, A, Mc-
Guire, 1, Thueli and W. J. McCracken
attended from Brussels, The former
was chosen so District Deputy tor the
incoming term, Mr. Wilton is an en-
thusiastio Ocldfellow and will fill the bill
all right. An installation team will be
organized in Western Star Lodge, Brus-
sels to assist the new District Deputy lu
his coming duties. There are 5lodges
in this district, viz Brussels, Blyth,
Wingham, Teeswater atld Wroxeter,

her home, near Kincardine, with Miss

trip by motor.
Glen Armstrong, druggist, Toronto,
who is a great lover of clean sport and
was actively pushing a hockey team last
Winter, is now President of a Base Ball
nine in the Queen city.

Marie, was here for the holiday. She
is a neice of D. and Mrs, Walker, of
Brussels, and is attending the Conserva-
tory of Music at Toronto,
N, F. and Mrs. Gerry and Miss Stella
leave Thursday of next week on a trip
to Fort William, Winnipeg end other
points, The letter has resigned her
position in the Standard Banit here.
Mrs. D. McKenzie has resumed house-
keeping in her home, corner Ellzebeth
and Mill streets, after a holiday for the
peat year. A, E and Mrs. Hersey, who
were tenants of Mrs. McKenzie's house,
have moved to the apartments newly
fitted up over the Bank of Nova Scotia.

Helpers" work will be discussed, A

College, preached in St. John's churab
on Sunday to the pleasure and the profit
of the pcople,.. His subjects were
"Faith, Hope and Charity" in the morn•
ing and "God's interest in man," at
the evening service, No permanent
appointment has been made to this
charge yet.
Anniversary services will be held in
connection with Melville church, Brus•
Bels, on Sabbath, May 3oth, at et a. m.
and 7 p. rn. Rev. James j, Patterson,
B, D., Sarnia, will be the preacher of
the day. Special musical numbers will
be rendered by the church choir. An

Building Fund. The usual gathering
held Monday evening at Anniversury oc-

REV. DR, RUSSELL DECEASED.—Last
Monday's dailies speaks of a well known
Presbyterian Evangelist known to
many in Ontario as follows :—Rev.
Walter Russell, D. D„ one of the fore-
most evangelists of the Presbyterian
Church of Canada, died in Montreal
Saturday, aged 57 years. Rev. Dr.
Russell preached with extraordinary
success not oily in Canada, but iu the
United States, from coast to coast, and
had many converts. Iutertnent
took place Monday in Bristol, Que-
bec, He is survived by his wife and 2
daughters, Mrs. A, 13, Crawford and
Miss Louise Russell, Toronto, with
whom Mrs, Russell will reside, at 414
Huron street, Dr. Russell was last in
Toronto at Dale Presbyterian church.

The London Methodist Conference
commences at Stratford Tune 1st, but it

morning addresses during the week,

and M C. Parr. The Laymen's Associa-
tion will hold its annual meeting. on
Wednesday. The ordinary public meet-
ing will be held Thursday, at which
Prof, Langford, of Victoria College,
will speak on "Religious Education,"
and Controller T. 0. Maguire, Toronto,
will also speak.
