W. H. DEAN RETIRES FROM
ACTIVE WORK, -One of the oldest
revellers upon the road, and most
popular, in the person of W. H. Deau,
etired the other day from the •hardware
firm of Wood, Alexander and Wood, by
whom he was presented with a cheque
or $t,000 as a parting gift. Mr. Dean
s a resident of Hamilton. Though
born in England. he was brought to
Stratford at au early age and learned the
ardware business as an apprentice with
Fuller Bros., who bad a store on On -
ado street. rn 1884 he became a com-
mercial traveller';tvhich bad been bis
ice's work, and which brought him
rosperity, EIe was a factor In the
uildlug up to the business of his firm
whom be had been with for 4o years,
and all of his lite he travelled 111 West-
ern Ontario where his genial face and
cheery greeting will be greatly missed.

big snowfall and have some of it still
which means a lot of grain in stook
yet in these parts. Most of oat crop,
which ie used instead of hay, is
in stook and you can see some farm-
ers with plow, slush scrapers and
some the scoop shovel, getting out
sheaves. Not many go "rejoicing
bringing in the sheaves," in January.
