COUNTY RATE.—The County levy this
year is 3 s-20 mills for general purposes
and rer mills for good roads, or a total of
4 6-10 mils. Last year's levy was 3 3.10
tor general purposes, a mill for good
roads and a mill for Provincial war tax,
or a total of 5 3.10 mills. This year's
rate is thus 7 -to of a mill less than last
year.
A DEMONneetertort Wednesday after-
noon of this week at the Poultry farm
of Walter Rose, Frederick street, Brus-
sels, dealing with the culling procese of a
flock, by an expert from the Ontario
Agriculture College. Mr. Rose is one of
the Directors of the Poultry Association
and attended a meeting at Guelph last
week,
GEORGE CLINE DECEASED,—Wednesday
of last week George Cline, a well known
man in Huron Co., passed away in
Wingham hospital, aged 72 years. He
took a stroke at Leamington and was
brought back to Wingham where he had
made his home for many years. Funer-
al took place Friday afternoou, Mr.
Cline was a bachelor and is survived by
2 brothers, Will,, Hamilton ; and Hor-
ace in tbe West. Mrs. P. Scott, who
attended the funeral is a cousin. De-
ceased was very fond of good music and
was leader of Choirs, Glee Clubs and
choruses for years, He was also a good
singer,
FARM SOLD,—George R. Muldoon has
disposed of his 13s acre farm, adjoining
Brussels corporation to Moody Holland,
of Walton, for the sum of $,t,000. The
purchaser is now in possession. Mr,
Holland who sold his farm last Winter
held. an Auction Sale of stook, &o. and
went West but not finding things to his
liking he returned and has now located
here, He has a Tine farm and will do
well on it we have no doubt, We wel-
come Mr, and Mrs. Holland auci family
to the community.

for the Forward Movement of the Mis'
s'onary work in connection with Mel-
ville W. M. 5 Auxiliary. There was a
very large attendance of the ladies of the
congregation and Mrs. S. C. Wilson pre-
sided. Meeting opened with devotional
exercises after which Mrs, (Rev ) Pierce
gave an excellent address ou the Women
and children of Turkey, She spoke as
an eye witless of the sufferings and
brave endurance of these women and
children, who would rather willingly die
than dishonor their Saviour. Iu closing
she made an earnest appeal to the
women before bee to live more aonse-
crated'lived and labor well as a thank -
offering to God for the many blessings,
At the close of her address Mrs, Wm.
Martin presented Mrs. Pierce with
a beautiful brgnet of tulips, Miss
Gertrude Deadman rendered a very
appropriate solo. Mrs. Be S. Scott
presented a report of work the Mission
Band have as their aim iu missionary
work, Site pleaded earnestly for the
sympathetic co operation of the mothers
in !hie splendid work, Mrs. (Rev.)
Mann spoke a few closing words on
some of the objections and obstacles
met with in Missionary work and
emphasized the great need of the
sympathy of every woman iu the congre-

cial Liberal Convention at Toronto as
one of the delegates from Centre Hurou,
Mrs. Teesdale Whitfield, Queen street,
is not enjoying her customery good
health but it is hoped she will soon re-
cruit.

Mr's, A. C. Dames was visiting at
Mt. Forest last week. Her mother,

one day last week. While be is better
than he was he has not regained bis old
time vigor yet.

and little son, Stewart, are here from
the West, hoping to benefit the laddie's
health by the change of air,

and son are away on a holiday trip,
which will encompass Sarnia, Windsor,
Detroit, Chicago and other points.

from Clinton and spent a few hours
here. The Former went on to Atwood,
Mrs, Adam Sinclair, Mill street, who
has been seriously i11 in McKillop, was
brought home last week. Her health is
in a very precarious condition we are
smentorry to hear but we hope for improve-

Mr. Pridham's health is none too robust,
bet we hope he will soon show improve-

Friday of last week Art. Rubinson,
formerly of Wroxeter, being the eldest
son of Postmaster and Mh's. Robinson,
was calling on Brusselites. .He recently
arrived from overseas where he did duty
with an hospital unit for some years in
France They cared for sick and
wounded aviators, Mr, Robinson is in
the Government service at Battleforrl.
His wife is Miss Georgie Howe a Fortner
Bnisselite, Art ,was one of the cham-
pion Foot Ball players at Brussels in
the days when charnploush(p honors
were on our program. ''Two Strike,”
as he wag nicknamed after a race horse
of those days, was a full back and was a
crackerjack, He took a hoot in the
military games overseas.

Miss Beth McIntosh, Toronto, is the
guest of her grandmother, Mrs. Thuell,
Alexander street,
N W, Scott is here on a visit with bis
brother, B. S. He weut overseas with
the 195 battalion, enlisting at Regina,
Mrs. Jno. lockson and daughter (Mrs.
A. Forsyth) accompanied by her little
neice, Rose Armston, are here from
Wiwa Hill, Sask., visiting with L. and
Mrs. Williamson.
Lieut, Harold Kerr, youngest son of
Rev. W, E. end Mrs. Kerr, now of
Vancouver. B C., bas been promoted to
Adjutant, at Witely Camp, England.
D. 13 and Mrs. McDonald went to
Owen Sound lest Saturday to see Mrs.
George Jamieson, who is quite ill. The
ladies are sisters, The Jamieson's form-
erly lived in Brussels.
Mouday night's train brought home
Will, Henderson, town, and Milton
Lake from.overseas. The boys came
through the ordeal in good shape and
are most heartily welcomed back to the
best land on earth.
Miss Gertrude McKenzie, who is a
student at Stratford Business College,
was home for the week end to attend
the wedding of her cousin, Miss Ada
Fulton, to Jas. Armstrong, which inter-
esting event was consummated Saturday
at high noon.
Our old friend Luke Speiran, Grey
township, was in town last Friday look
ingas hearty as can be. He is in his
87th year mud has been a resident of the
township for about 6o years. Mr, Spate -
au has good eyesight and hearing and is
a wonderfully web preserved man for
his age. He and his little granddaugh-
ter ere bosom companions in the house•
hold. Mr. Speiran motored to Brussels
in Wm. Pattetson's cat',

A picnic on the Methodist Parsonage
lawn for the members of the Cradle
Roll and their mothers and the Primary
Class of the Sunday School is slat-
ed for Thursday afternoon of this week.
Last Sunday evening Rev. Mr. Ken-
nedy, pastor of the Crsubrook and
Ethel churches, oocupied the pulpit in
Melville church and gave a good dis-
course ou "Samson." Rev. Mr, Mann
was at Ethel,
Sabbath morning next the pastor will
preach a special sermon to the children
and young folk in the Methodist church.
They will constitute the choir Evening
service will be withdrawn on account of
Melville church Anniversary.
Mrs (Rev.) W. A. Bradley has gone
to Clifton Springs Sanitarium. Previ-
ous to her departure the ladies of Knox
church, Teeswater, presented her with a
beautiful valise and a kindly worded
and sympathetic address,
