WITH two sessions of Parliament on
hand in this Country and the Peace
Confereneo meeting at Paris the public
mind may be kept well occupied.
Too many trips to the Old Country at
the Country's expense. It would be a
good idea we believe, to all stay at home
and get our own chores done up,
These "jaunts" dou't smack of good
housekeeping as the "gadder" don't win
many ret prizes,
Sosts of the relic huuters after the
funeral of the Iate Sir Wilfrid Laurier,
at Ottawa, put themselves in the list of
petty thieves, by their actions at the
church and cemetery, it newspaper re-
ports gives correct data. "Gall" is a
well developed quality in some people
when they are dealing with what be-
longs to another.
THERE is considerable sparring over
the Daylight Saving law and its enforce-
ment. Numerous petitions have gone
to Ottawa from farmers, fruit -growers
and others condemning it and asking
for its repeal. If the U. S. adopt it for
este and Ontario don't there will be a
great muddle over railroad time tables
coucerning through trains, &c. Some
say so many other folk favor the long
daylight law will probably come into et -
feta, with the farming community ex-
empt.
Ws look for a "scrappy" time in both
Dominion and Provineial Parliaments
as a good mane of the members already
have their "fur" up. There's a move at
Ottawa to increase the indemnity to
members from the present $2,500 to
$3,500 but we expect it will be a case of
beautiful unanimity and trauquility on
such a live issue. Election campaigns
are on the program and there must be a
show of activity among the brethren if
they are looking for a return to their old
job.
Sons of those aid Senators would not
show their teeth quite so freely in the
discussion of the Prohibition question,
at Ottawa if they had to face the think
ing men and women of to -day in an
election campaign but in the security of
their "cage" we suppose they think
they cannot be harmed. The arguments
advanced would qualify their expon-
ent% to one cf two classes—cbildisbuess
or dotage. Sobriety is never going to
be taught through a beer mug or a wine
glass and the electors will have nothing
but chaff if they allow themselves to be
board by any such subterfuge.
"To.al Prohibition" is the slogan and it
is up to every lover of home and eative
land to be thoroughly alive to the situa-
tion,

AUDITOR'S RIIPORT TO T5I£ SHARSHOLDERS,
I have compared tete above Balance Sheet with the books and accounts at the chief
office of The Standard Banat of Canada, and the certified returns received from its
branches, and after checking the cash and verifying the securities at the olticf office
and certain of the prineinat branches on January 31st, 1919 I certify that in my opinion,
such Balance Sheet exhibits a true and correct view of the state of the Bank's affairs
according to the best of my information, the explanations given to me, and as shown by
the books of the Bank.
In addition to the examination mentipned, the cash and securities at the thief office
mid certain of the principal branches were obeeked and verified by me at another time
during the year, and found to be in accord with the books of the Bank.
All information and explanations required have been given to me, and all transactions
af, the .Bank which have come under my notice have, to my opinion, been within the
