So in connection with the "flu" scare, the wholesale druggists have hail great opportunity to "soak" the excited public and haven't been a bit slow in taking advantage of it. The Ontario Temperance Act, which was passed as a war measure, has to be submitted to a vote of the electors. The time for the taking of this vote has been changed once or twice, but as it now stands under the act the electors will be asked to say on the first Monday in Julie next if the act is to remain in force, Whether that date will stand remains for the Legislature to decide. The morator- ium, which became law early in the war, under present legislation, will remain in force until six months after peace is declared. Thus the govern- ment will have ample opportunity, if it desires, to pass further legislation in this regard. Separation Allowance Rates - The rates of separation allowance payable to the dependants of private soldiers, non-commissioned officers first-class warrant officers and lieu- tenants serving with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces has been in- creased, effective September 1, 1 91 8. Dependents of private soldiers and non-commissioned officers from $25 to 30 per month, Dependents of first-class warrant officers from $30 to $35 per month. Dependents of lieutenants from $30 to $40 per months. This is largely a matter of bookkeeping in reference to the men's pay Most people will be agreed that the dependents are entitled to be as liberally dealt with by the gov- ernment as is possible.
