Awards to Workmen.
The annual statement of the Work-
men's Compensation Board, just is-
sued, shows that during 1917 the total
amount of compensation awarded was
, 7,085.81, as compared with $2,-
011,468.94 for 1916. The average a-
mount of compensation per day during
1917 was $0,071. Assessments were
collected from 14,000 employers, on
a pay roll representing $256,580,000.
The total number of accidents reported
was 36,511 as against 26,092 reported
during the previous year
Fall Wheat For Seed
Steps are being taken by the Ag-
ricultural Section of the Ontario Re-
sources Committee to have good fall
wheat seed for sale, to encourage
farmers who now have it to hold it,
and to advise those who have not
supply 40 purchase early. Within
the past few days the district re-
presentatives of the Agricultural De-
partment were circulated and in-
structed to make a systematic sur-
vey of the wheat situation in their
counties. They were asked to re-
port to the department the number
of acres of fall wheat killed during
last winter, the number of acres in
hand, and also to locate any pos-
sible supplies of seed,

O A notification has been received
a from the British Authorities to the ef-
s fect that the Parcel Post Service for
Prisioners of War in Turkey or Bul-
garia is at present suspended. Until
this service is resumed no parcels can
be forwarded to prisoners of war in
Turkey or Bulgaria and persons desir-
ing to help prisoners of war in these
countries are advised to forward re-
mittances to them. These can be
sent by means of Post Office Money
Orders which are issued free of com-
mission. Particulars as 110W to pro-
ceed may be obtained from Postmasters
of Accounting Offices. Any parcels
for Prisioners of War in these coun-
tries which may be intercepted in
the course of transmission will be re-
turned to the senders, providing the
name of the sender is given on the
parcel.
