Disapprove Member's Course.
"That we. the Liberals of Cenrte
Huron in annual meeting assembled, I,
hereby place on record our entire
disapproval of the course pursued
by our present representative. Mr.
\Vm. Proudfoot, M. P. P., not only I
during the recent Federal election
campaign, but as well, if press re-
ports are correct, in his speech dur-
ingthe discussion of the Address at
the (penin( et the recent session of
the Ontario Le.eielature; his re-
mark 'limn that occasion that "the
results of the recent election con-
test showed that the people at home
were prepared to back up the boys
at the front" is equivalent to saying i
that every elector who did not sup-
port the so-called Union Govern-
ment is a rebel, and is a direct in-
sult to Lear} :arporter of Sir Wil-
frid Laurier, `That we are not in '
favor of the extension of Perlia- I
.lent and the compact made in re-
gard to bye -elections. As true Lib- I
erais we highly approve of the mani-
festo issued to the Canadian people
1'y our great Leader as being not
only the right policy for Canadians
to adopt m order to enable Canada
to do its best in the further pro-
secution of the war and keep its
people united, but also to secure the
futherance of those great Liberal
principals which he has so bril-
liant)_" championed throughout the
long course of his public life."
U ° DOWN JURIES
TO HELP
FARMERS
County Judges Asked to Try All
Possible Cases Without
.fury
Notices have been sent out to all
county judges asking them to have as
fete jury cases as possible this sum-
mer. This is being done to relieve
the farmers, who are generally called
to serve on the iuries so that the wort
of production will not be interrupted.
The request, applies of course, only
to eases of a nature that may be tried
either he ;a jure or by a ledge, as crime
!nal cases would naturally be tried in
the ordinary way. It is therefore more
or less a matter for the legal profes-
sion to arrange the cases as much as
possible along this line.
As far as Heron County is concern-
ed the order will not make much dif-
ference as there are few jury cases
at Goderich,
SAYS• PUBLIC DOUBTFUL
In Toronto recently Mr, Thorn -
son told the people that there was
no danger of 'amine in Canada.
His message was reassuring in all
respects. Yet the city is plastered
by placards, atane or ,starveSuch
inconsistencies make the public
doubtful Of the siuceriir of the
food -saving campaign. Toronto
Mail and Empire.
The Mall Ild umpire can charge
the government with inconsistency
in its food campaign and nothing is
said. If a Liberal newspaper printed
the above comment it would be
jumped on immediately by the super -
loyal Tory press and referred to as
pro -German, friend of the Kaiser,
etc. Examples of this sort of abuse
were many in the last federal elec-
tion campaign, We are glad to note
that the Mail and Empire has direct-
ed attention to the inconsistencies of
the food board. The public Would
be indebted to the Mail if it would
call for further explanations of the
boards Orders from time to time,
