Margaret Service beloved wife of Finlay
S. Soott, entered into rest Sunday after-
noon at her home. "Blair Athol," Wil-
liam street, aged 69 years. Cause of de -
raise was heart ailment, She was born
in Dereham township, Oxford Co., and
later made her home with her *Mole,
Jacob Storm at Ethel In May 1872 de-
certned was united in marriage to F, S.
Scott and they took up residence in
Brussels, where they have lived con-
tinuously. In addition to husband, 2
sons (D. M., of Graud Rep'cla, Mich .
and Walter S., Bruseels) and a daughter
(Mrs, G. H. Semis, Brussels,) survive.
Finlay and 4 infants are deceased,
Mrs. Scott has 2 sisters, (MeSclaMeS
Rani and 'Dennis, Ingersoll) and 2
brothers (Searaour, of Ingersoll aud
William, London.) Fuueral service was
conducted at the home Tuesdey after-
noon by Rev. D. B. McRae, Kincardine,
an old friend of the Welly The 2
beautiful selections "Lead kindly Light"
and "Abide with me" were rendered as
Vocal numbers by the Victrola and were
great favorites of deceased, Floral of-
ferings were numerous and beautiful.
Pallbearers were relatives viz, P. Scott,
Archie Scott (Sarnia), Win, Service, G.
H, Samis and D, M. and Walter Scott.

THE PosT referred to the demise of
Tilos Gaynor, who died on the 26th
ult„ at the advanced age of 88 years,
Phe old gentleman WEIS born near Tralee,
Co Kerry, Ireland and came to Canada
when 19 years of age along with his par-
ents, locating at London, In 1862 he
bought Lot 35, Con 2, Grey toter/ship,
then a bush faun and about the same
time was married to Miss Mary Melville,
of London, who passed away August
14th, 1882 and was buried et St. Colum-
bian cemetery. Mr. Gaynor Sold his
farm and went to Kansas but come back
and bought Se Lot 1, Con. 9, Elm
township, which he disposed of to
James Thomson, Henfryn, 16 years ago
when be came to live in Brussels, where
he was well cared for to the last by his
faithful daughter, Miss Joanne, The
old gentleman was blind for the past 8
years. He is survived by 2 daughters,
Mess Gaynor already referred to and
Mrs. T. C. Heffrota Blyth A sou died in
infancy. M. E. Geynor, Portland,
Oregon, and Jno., of Heufryn, are sup
viving brothers, (the latter aiding in the
care of the deceased for some time) and
Mrs. Halcey, of Kansas, is a sister, now
no years of age. Funeral service, Thurs-
day morning, was conducted by Rev,
ler, Fallon, deceased's pastor in St,
Ambrose church and interment took
place io the Brussels 12., C. cemetery,
Pallbearers were jos, Querin, S. Wilton,
12, Henderson, leo. and Joseph Loug
and J. St. Amour.' Mr. Gaynor was
fine man, honest, industrious, unassum-
ing and ever ready to do a good tuna
ORATORICAL CONTEST, -On Friday,
22nd lust., at 3 p. M., the Literary Socie-
ty of Brussels Continuation School, held
one of the best meetings in its history,
the chief feature of interest being an
oratorical contest. There were 6 con-
testants for the honor of chief Orator, -
NI, Armstrong, E. Sperling, NI, Maun.
tiers, A, Johnston, C. Armstrong, and
0 Hemingway. Each gave an address
Upon a subject previously prepared,
Atter the first eddresses were gigeneach
contestant drew a slip of paper on whieb
was written a subject upon which an
extemporaneous address of 2 iniatiles
must be given, The audience was treat-
ed to an exbibition of talent and ability
in each instance, Tbe judges were
Revs Mann, Stafford and Smith. Rev.
Smith ingiving the decision of the
judge., who awarded the honors to Cota
Armstrong, complitnented each member
upon the excellence of their addresses,
assuring them that each WAS to be corn-
rneutied for the ability displayed in • the
histionic art. Addresses were inter-
spersed with tnusie avid readings. Pio-
