ONTARIO MUFFING
ITS CHANCE
It has been announced that the
'Ontario Government does not in-
tend to have an exhibit at the
World's Fair in New York next
year. One wonders, says the Ot-
tawe Journal, whether Premier Hep -
been, in coming to the decision, has
:given adequate thought to all the
consideration involved.
Millions of Americans from all
parts or the Milted States will visit
that fair. Their, presence makes
opportunity for Ontario to advertise
her attractions for the tourists such
as seldom occurs and such as should
not be missed.
The Peterborough Examiner puts
to case well:
"Pie should show those visitors
'whet advantages Ontario possesses
as a Summer vacatlonland, show
them the wonderful system of lakes
and rivers we have and the rapidly
lengthening network of good 'high.
ways over width they can ride to
reach these scenic beauty spots.
And we shouldn't stop at that, In a
world: show window, such as this:
great exhibition provides, we should
kdisDIay our advantages as a loca-
tion 'for branch factories 01 Amerl-'
can industries, advertise our cheap
power, our publicly owned Hydro
systean, our ample railway accom-
modation and the other facilities we
'have arvailable for The American
manufacturer who is seeking a loca-
tion on thla side of the border,"
Ontario mattes a very 'h'andsome
'profit from the tourists, • Ame1'icans
in their• hundreds of thousands have
travelled to 'Callender to see the Di-
onne. quintuplets and, as Dr. Dafoe
said to the Canadian Toutist Assodl-
attOn, "figure what that means to
the province in gasoline 'tax alone?'
This merely Illustrates the possibil-
ities of the toreis't traffic, eonetder-
ing our fortunate situation next
doer to a huge ,population acutely
.consotous of the pleasure •of going
to new places and seeing new
things, And it would seem that
the concentration of Americans nt
the World's Fair provides en ideal
sot -up for alt aggressive tourist

HE HAS LEFT
THE CITY
Rocco Perri is reported to have
left Hamilton, but weather he went
far away is uncertain as .he was
seen in Toronto a short time after
his departure.
He has been In Hamilton for a
good many years, (Kering which
time his wile was murdered one
night when gunmen were evidently
certain they weed going to shoot
Perri himself. Since •then part of
his home .has been blown up by a
blast of dynamite, but 11e had left
the place a short time previously to
go to a store. The other evening he
went to start bis car and found a
bomb had been placed so timed that
pressing the starting apparatus
would cause the explosion. The
car was blown to smithereens and
two men taken to the hospital, But
Perri was virtually uninjured ,
There were years dulling the op-
eration of the O.T.A, when Rocco
Perri was named "King• of the
Bootleggers;" and we believe he
Picked that name out and gave it to
himself, probably nothing more or
less tnan a toren of braggaaoolo
which made its own peculiar appeal
to him,
We have 110 way of knowing what
the people of Hamilton think obout
this gentleman, but bombings and
dynamite are foreign to this conutry
and probably HarUton is weary of
a succession of such events. The
police have never been able to tie
the crime to any person. At best
a citizen who bore the name "King
of the Bootleggers'' cannot be grad-
ed among the most desirable.

NOTE AND COMMENT
Minister for Municipal Affairs in
Ontario says 'municipal credit is
high, He could truthfully have
said the same about our debts and
taxes. ^ ^-
Col. Drew says if he becomes
Premier of Ontario he will pledge
himself to honest government.
Could, not that much be taken for
granted?
Children, should not be worried
about stories of Santa Claus break-
ing his leg. The old gentleman
will be around as usual, come
Christmas eve.
Premier Chamberlain is going to
make a visit to Mussolini early in
the New Year and he may also call
at Bernie Before he starts it will
be necessary for him to find his
umbrella.
London, Ont., is going high -hat in
that it now claims. the population of
"Greater London" is 95,000, al-
though it has to go out in the town-
ship to reach that figure,
The Ontario Government an-
nounces it is not going to Interfere
with the guardians of the menthe -
lets. That puts the aforesaid
guardians distinctly in the preferred
class.
Japan .is urged to speed up the
making et munitions as a break
with Rnssia is expected, .According
to the ethics of war Russia should
tackle Japan right away while that
country Is tied up In China.
Ontario's municipal credit is
said to be at the highest peak in.
years, That speaike well for the
durability of the municipal tax-
payer in view of the demands that
relief has made upon civic
treasuries.
