Norman Dillon, middle-aged farm-
er of near Dublin yas almost in-
atanftly killed on Friday evening
when the cutter he was driving on
No. 8 Highway crashed almost
head-on into a bus which war larry-
ing members of the Stratford
Majors, Intermediate 0.11.A, hockey
team to Clinton for an eznibition
match.
With Dillon at the time was his
nephew, Robert Dillon, who suffer•
ed minor injur,'os.
Only two of the occupants of the
bus were injured. Coach of the
Majors, William Gerby and tha
trainer, James Elder, bad slight
cuts from flyinp gloss, which re-
sulted when the horse drawing
Dillon's cutter reared into the
windshield of Ole bus, nea- where
the two men wore seated.
An inquest into the fatality,
which occurred about a mile and 0
half east of Sea forth was opened
Saturday with Provincial Traffic
Officer 7. W. Callender and Soator:h

Because of the accident, mtmbers
of the hockey team were delayed
by the authorities as witness^a and
the exhibition Game was cancelled.

ceeding West toward Seaforth and
was on his own side of the high-
way, accordin,t 1c members of the
Stratford hockey club. It i,: alleged
that Dillon was driving the cutely
without a light on it, and that Ile
was driving toward the bus, oa itis
wrong side of 'the highway. In a
desperate attemr't to avoid a col-
lision, the KiteLeneir bus deko: is
said to have swung srddenly to tile
left to try to get around that gide
of the oncoming horse-drawn ve-
hicle when the horse buudenly
reared and tin, crash occurred, The
horse was plunged Into the right
front of the bus, near where JIr,
Gerby and Mr. Elder were sitting.
The glass flew quits: freely in-
side of the bus, but no one else was
injured.
The horse was badly cut and Is
said to ahve at least one leg
broken and the beast was destroyed
by Provincial Constable Callender.
It is said that the bus caerlecl the
horse an doutter for some distance,
