To rite rgoetor'ate of Drueeele
from Harry Bowler,
Lucknow-4 Brussels -2 My Dear 1'r'tende;
A large Grated, of hockey fans In the first place t wish to take
turned out to witness elle opening i tole opportunity of thanking my sup -
hockey genre et the Brussels Arena, 'porters at the recent , olectioa for
councillors, in our Mitt tileel village
of Brussels,
It is true that I was defeated; and
was defeated badly, and I might feel
very downcast lied I not been fight^
ing fora principle, but, It would
raUher be defeated a thousand tunes
staking a stand for what 1 believe to
be right, than be the moat popular
individual in Ontario, if I was forced
to yield principle for popularity.
It is true, •the most ambitious, the
most energetic, and the most loyal
Canadians, may meet with revs"ses
under circumstances over wbieh
they had no control, making it neces-
sary during the mouths when the
piercing winds of winter, shill even
the most robust iuhabitauts of our
lair village, but there is no Canadian
worthy a the nanie, and there is uo
Canadian worthy to be the deacen
dents of our noble pioneers, who
would yield to accept charity and
relief, if they bad an opportunity to
work for wages.e,
I make this statement, and I make
it boldly, that anyone requiring re-
lief and charity should not be
ashamed of the fact, and It b my
opinion, that, as the Council are
spending the people's money whet.
they hand out relief, they are in
fluty bound to publish the names et
those receiving such relief.
I have always thought that thane
doing work for the town, and who
have been enjoying high-class re-
lief at the ratpayer's expense,
should allow their wages to be ap-
plied toward paying for their tenef,
Alpparently the Villagers did not
understand, or I would have been
accorded a little more support.
on Monday night, The localteam

second defeat by the score of 4-2. ,

was stopped at the Lucknow de-

had several cnanaes to score, but
felled to get past goalie Finlayson
for Lucknow whq played a sensa-
tional game. Jewitt of Lucknow
broke .through the defence and scor-
ed the opening counter of the gams.
J, Hiiggitt scored a goal at the
first of the second period, It was not
allowed as be was offside. Luck -

and McDowell the second string,
kid line worked bard and gave the
visttgls plenty of opposition,
In the third period H. Workmap.
and Ned Ratledge broke through
the defence, Neel Rutledge tying up
the score. But Brussels csuidn't
hold them and Jewitt came right
back to make it 2-1 for Lucknow.
Book came through and added an-
other goal for Lucknow, Ned Rut-
ledge is a scramble scored the
second goal for .the locals. Jewitt
who was tibe star, to weeds, scored
his third goal of the game.
After that Brussels tried hard belt
could not catch up to the vis.tors.

How The People Voted
For Councillors
MUNICIPALITY BRUSSELS
I have this io say in conclusion,
that I was fighting for a prinetple,
and that I have no longing to be
.Popular, if to he so, one must be
made of about the same material as
Plasticene; the material that kinder-
garten children use to mould .into
the shape of little men, wha, of
course, are quite incapable of
thought.
I must accept the verdict of the
electorate for the present, and 1 do
so, cheerfully, hut, when another
year rolls around, if Provenience
spares me, and so wills, I will be
tight back asking for your support.
on the old question and any new
ones that may arise.
I thank you. and wish every
citizen of Brussels all the enjoyment
and prosperity tbat 1933 can beatow
an them.
Yours cheerfully,
Harry Bowler.
