On the afternoon of August 4th,
the family of Mrs, Chas, Wheeler
and the late Mr, 0, Wheeler of
Morris gathered at the old !tame
now occupied by their son Jesse.
This is the nest tinge .far nearly
thirty years that the family were
able to be all home together. The
family consists of Mrs, A, Taylor,
(Carrie) of Wingham; Herb of &1
grave; Ernest of Lethbridge, Attie;
Leonard of North Vancouver, B.C.;
Jesse and Cecil and Mrs. N. Higgins
(Lena) of Morris and Mrs, John
Anderson (Myrtle) of leelgrave.
The others present were four
daughters-in-law and three son3-in
law and seventeen gra tdchi?dre.t.

,'Band Holds Picnic
The annual picnic of the "Little
' Stars' Mission Band" of the Mel-
ville Presbyterian :Church, proved
to be a delightful ,function, held on
Friday aitt•enoon on the church
lawn. The weather was ideal for
the event and there was a splendid
attendance of the members with
their parents and friends, Mrs. Jas,
Armstrong, the president of the or-
ganization, was ably assisted by
Mrs. Lorne Eckmier, AIrs, Clark
Matheson, Mrs. Robt. Thomson and
Mrs, W. Moore. The games were
capably supervised by Mrs, Joseph
Wilton and _Miss Jessie Little. A
pleasing solo was contributed by
Marion Scott, or RegIua. Refresh-
ments were served at the close.

the lawn of F, L, A. Bassett, Every-
one got their moneys worth in the
show lasting from S to 11 o'clock,
Tack Thynne, known ou the radio as
"The Kansas Farmer," ie one of the
old time fiddlers of note. To add
variety to the entertainment he had
arranged an amateur hour, and
handled the preformaucos or the
dozen numbers mast pleasingly.
Little Florence Perkins got the
biggest hand and the hist prize,
Second prize was tied for between
Helen Perkins and Marjorie Green,
Each contestatlt received a Prize.
The locale was very pretty and pre-
sented a carnival appearance with
numbers of colored lights, and the
new ice cream stand, operated by
Mr, Bassett, was kept busy dispens-
lug lee cream and sort drinks, All
the town merchants felt the impetus

The funeral of Miss Jane Mitchell
took place from her home in
Brussels south, Friday afternoon,

Jane Shiels
Tlhere passed away 10 Grey Town-
ship an old resident on August 7th,
in the person of Jane Shiels in her
79th year.
She was born on the farm that
she died on. She was the eldest
daughter of the late John and ItIrs,
Shiels, She leaves to mourn thea'
loss, three brothels, William of
Vancouver; Robert H. John on the
homestead on the 14071 con. of Gley
Township. Three ,brothers and
two sisters predeceased her. She
was a long sufferer of .heart trouble
and was in bed for 9 months before
her death. She lived in Grey all
her life, except 12 years that she
residei7 in Huilett Township and
the town of Goderich. She was of
a very (Inlet nature and a great
lover of flowers, Rev. W. A.
liams conducted the funeral service
to Cranbrook cemetery on August
9th.
The pallbearers were Wm, Dunn,
Martin McDonald, Gordon Knight,
Lyne Evans, James A. McNair and
Angus Brown,

ian,

Bruce Beach, live stiles south of
here Sunday afternoon,
With his wife and 'Dr. 3, D. and
Mrs. Colquhoun, of Mei, lie was in
bathing. Dr, Colquhoun was on a,
diving stand when the heard Dr.
ICidd's cries for help, the latter be-
ing about 50 feet from the stand.
Dr. Colquhoun plunged in olid swam
to Dr. Kidd but was unable to 1told

Death Shocks Town
Atwood, August 16. -This Perth
County community was shocked by
the death .0f Dr. Richard T, Kidd,
University of Western Ontario grad-
uate, and :practising physician here:
for the past six years,

have been 33 in September. He
was a son of •Mrs. . Richard Kidd

High School, he entered the Medi-
cal School of Western University
and after graduation served as 111_.

Surviving are his wife, one (laugh.

and Mrs, Charles Johnstone, Lis-
towel. He was predeceased by one
brother.

Since coming here, Dr. Kidd bad
been active in village affairs, Mem-
ber of the Knox Presbyterian
Church, he was on the board or
nranagenuhet. Services Sunday night
were cancelled when word of his
death was received.
Friends brought Mre. Kidd to her
home last night. Suffering from
shock she is under a doctor's care -
The funeral took place on
Wednesday afternoon with a public
eervic'e itt the Presbyterian Church
in Atwood.
