of the father of James Ballantyne,

in-law, Mr. James Davis, early on
Sunday morning, is removed
Bltrth's oldest citizen, For many -
months
his condition had been pre-
carious but through the loving
care and undivided attention of his
daughter he continued to linger,
hitt owing to his advanced years,
the: prolonged illness eventually
sapped his strength and he peaceful-
ly passed away. Mr, Thos. HelIen-
type was barn in Galashiels, Scot-
land, ninety-six years ago, and
when a young man was apprentic-
ed to the Woolen mill trade. He was
married to Elizabeth Hislop about
the year 1863 and within an hour
after the ceremony, he and his ;bride
Hailed for Canada, first taking up
their residence in Strathroy. Short-
ly afterwards they roved to Wrox-
eter where a family of eight child-
ren were born. Here he remained
until coming to Blyth, forty-two
years ago and he was employed in
the woolen - mill for many yeal•s.
Over twenty years ago his wife
passed away since tlu.t time he had
need° his home with his family, for
eight years t a s with a daughter lit

don and the past three years with
his daughter, Mrs. Jas Davis, town,
He was a man of kindly disposition
and well thought of by those with
whom he labored. He leaves to g
mourn his loss four sons, namely, a.

ceptional contrast of two years and

very distinct linking up the past
with the present. Mr. and Mrs. Fer-
ris, who have now passed the fifty-
second year of married life, still
enjoy comparatively good health,

to have been spontaneous combust-
