HURON RIDING Alleged That Toronto Couple Falsely Swore They Resided in Clinton — Apply for Recount — Eight of the Alleged Missing Ballots Were Cast in Stanley Sub -division. With a formal application for a recount in South Huron now pP.nd- ina before Judge Lewis, of. Goder- irh, a number of alleged discrepan- cies and iti't. ularitte•, including 14 missing ballot.', were brought to light in connection v.'ill the provin- cial election in that riding on Wed- nesdav of last week. Following the election the seat was unofficially conceded to George Elliott, of Clinton, the Conservative candidate, whose victory would have meant a Conservative gain. His unofficial nv jonty was set at 100. The official cunt this week, however. resulted in the announce- ment that the riding had been re• tainted in the last legislature, and hie official majo"ity was given as 20. The alleged diacrennrcies in the Smith Hrron contest were told by W. S. Holmes, well-known Conser- vative worker, of Clinton. The most important of these alleged irregu- larities is the annaneement that there were 14 ballets which were cast last Wednesday, that have never come to light. 'Eight of these miss - 47 ing ballots, according to Mr. Holmes, 40 were cast at poll no. 6 in Stanley, 38 which subdivision Mr. Elliott cap - I67 tured by a vote of 513 to 301, ae- 48 cording to the official results. The other six missing ballots are said to have been cast at two polls in Sea - forth and two -in Hay township. In Seaforth Mr. Elliott won by a maj- ority of 133 votes and in Hay town - 22 ship each eandidet.'. secured 431 16 votes, the official count shows. 9699 Allege False Oath 32 It is also alleged 6y Mr. Holmes 97 that two Toronto residents, a man 23 and his wife said to he a Mr. and Mrs. Blatchford, cast votes in Clin- ton were they were mit entitled 'to vote. The Torontoniane, according to Mr. Holmes, are alleged to have taken the oath before the deputy returning officer in poll No. 2 to the effect that they were residents of Clinton. After they had taken the oath the deputy -returning, officer Norman Miler, handle.) them ballots which the couple marked. It was learned later, Mr. Holmes states, that these two persons were merely visitors to the town and that they had no right to take the oath. It was alleged, also, that the cou. pie were vouched for hy°'a resident of the town. The Election Act ape' elfieally sets forth that a person must be a resident in a municipality for two months before being entitl- ell to cast a vote, 11Ir, Holmes states, Another alleged discrepancy is said to have occurred at the advance poll when two residents of Goderleh township cast votes to which they were not entitled, the advance poll being only for travellers and train- men, The Goderlch township leen who are alleged to have voted At the advance poll wore farmers. In addition to 'these things there was a total of .60 tejeeted ballots, which were counted, Each of these was irregular in some way, some of them being marked with "yes" or "no" or with the 1andidtetes name instead of merely the "X' . 28 131 182 No 1 439 177 Stephen Ne.2 Nn. 3 No. 4 No. 5 No. 6 No. 7 No. 8 .......... Until the natural man fulfils that duty by i>.ceepting God's wonderful gift of His Son as the sinner's Saviour, and thus conies into right relationship with God, the Bible has no message , for him, except in its' declarations of the fa- tal character and consequences of sin and the covenanted blessing for nil who are willing to be saved. It is important to keep this in mind as we study the various lessons of this quarter on "Social Teach - About the same 'Nina Peter, in a her father, wore a lovely gown of trance, was givena vision of a white georgette over ivory silk lace, great sheet containing beasts and with close fitting sleeveless bodice fowls both clean and unclean, ae- and long full skirt, Her vell, of white cording to the Mosaic law, and was net, was arranged in cap fashion with told to eat of them. The Bible was not written,in order to give such teach- ings fir mankind in general or for nations as such. Hence the subject of this week's lesson must be stud- ied in connection with believers and their duties and privileges. All the Scripture passages making up this related to God'e parable are lesson , in both Old Testament and New, The Book of Ruth is a'beautiful story from Israel's history showing the blessing that came to a Moab Christ alone.
