visitors with T. G. and Mrs, Hemphill
Rev, Mr. Kinder, Leamington, a
former Rector of the Anglican church
was a recent visitor at the home of
Fred Davey.
The 'following obituary refers to
the mother of J. R. Wendt, of our
village:—The remains of the late
Mrs. Charles Wendt were brought to
Mildmay on the noon train from Os-
hawa, where her death took place on
Wednesday morning at the home of
her son, William F, Wendt, Death
was not unexpected as she had not
been well for several years and of
late had 'been seriously ill. Deceas-
ed, whose maiden name was Mary
Ripcke, was the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Ripcke• She was born in Pres-
ton in 1852, and later moved with
her parents to the 3rd con., of Car-
rick.. In 1876 she was married to
Charles Wendt and lived in Mildmay
where her husband conducted a fine
jewelry business. Mr. Wendt prede-
ceased her nine years ago and one
child, Christian, died at the age of
fourteen years. The other members
of the family left to mourn her
death are : John R. of Wroxeter,
Charles C, of Mildmay, William P.
of Oshawa, Reuben H. of Windsor,
Mrs. Harvey Jarvis, of Hamilton,
Mrs. F. Wilson, of Sardis, B. C., and
Mrs. A. C. Welk, of Mitchell. Mrs.
Wendt was well-known and highly
respected in this community, and
possessed a very amiable character.
She was the ceentre of a host of warm
friends. Her death is regretted
by her children, as she was a devot-
ed mother. The funeral left the re-
resdence of C. E. Wendt Friday af-
ternoon, and after the services in the
Evangelical church, interment took
place in the new cemetery on the
Elora highway.
