On Friday, Mrs. Catherine Young,
of Minnie street, Wingham, celebrat-
ed her 9Srd birthday. About forty
of her relatives and neighbors gath-
ered with her to offer congratulat-
ions. Congratulatory messages were
received from Toronto, Hamilton,
London and Goderich. Mrs, Young
was also the recipient of many beau-
tiful flowers and gifts of differeent
kinds, among which was a unique
gift of a box of mints from Dr. Mar-
garet Calder, which she bought while
on a world cruise during the whole
winter in Japan. The subject of this
sketch was born near Stromness,
Orkney Islands, Scotland in 1836 .
and came to Canada with her par-
ents, brothers and sisters about 75
years ago. In 1862 she was mar-
ried to the late William !ham Young, who
over

o years was Reeve of 'Col-
borne township, Huron County. Mr.
Young died in 1896 and three years
afterwards' IMrs. Young moved Ito
Wingham, where she has lived ever
since. Hight of Mrs. Young's nep-
hews and nieces from Goderich and
vicinity were present with her and
added to the enjoyment of her party,

nieces in and around Wingham and
she enjoyed having all with her on

to Muriel Michel on her success in
securing the ,Silver Medal in the
open class in piano solo at the musi-
cal festival at Stratford. We under-
stand this is the first piano medal
to come to Huron County.
The Young People of the Trow-
bridge United Church presented
their play "Little Miss Jack" in the
Township Hall on Monday night un-
der the auspices of the Mission Band.
A fair crowd attended and enjoyed
a play that was well presented. Re-
freshments were served to those tak-
ing part by the members of the Mis-
sion Band.

last the pastor presented the appeal
for the Missionary and Maintenance
Fund and received an encouraging
response, It is expected that those
who were not present will also • co-
perate so that the objective for 1929
will easily be reached.
On Sunday next a' special. Mother's
Day and Baptism service will be held
in the Ethel United Church at 3 p.m.
when the three congregations of the
circuit will unite. A large Mothers'
choir selected from Ethel, Union
and Roes will sing special numbers
including chorus, duet and quartette,
A number of infants will be baptized
and a large congregation is expect-
ed.
The regular meeting of the Wo -
Diens' Institute will be held on
Thursday afternoon, May Kith at
2.30 o'clock at the home of Mrs. J.
Bremner, Plans for next year's pro-

Perth, Huron and Bruce, a radius' of
75 miles from Stratford, where site
certainly acquitted her self, being
awarded the Silver Medal, and hav-
ing the honor of getting the first
pinna medal to come to Huron Co.

ed in Stratford on Tuesday of last

Charles Case, three miles east of
Walton, McKillop boundary, fractur-
ed his collarbone while putting down
feed for stock. Mr. Case fell from
a wagon on the barn floor. As this
is Mr. Case's third accident within
the last several years, it will leave
him ,in a helpless condition at pre-
sent. He is already handicapped
with the loss of one hand.

Mrs. Thomas Johnston underwent
an oneration at the Wingham Hospi-
tal last week.

London on Sunday and attended the
funeral of a friend there.

held on Thursday afternoon at the
home of Mrs. J. T. Brydges.

here all day Friday.

Black and Johnston shipped a ear
of cattle and one of hogs to Toronto

and Mrs. Anderson,
Miss Mabel Goultess, of Toronto is
spending a few weeks vacation at
the home of her mother here.
Wilbert and Mrs, Mathers and

The continued wet, cold weather
has delayed seeding. About half
or less of the seeding has been done.
!Mrs, Charles Turvey has rented
Mrs. Rolph's house and experts to
move into the village in a few days.
Quite a large number of grass tat-

the past week, and many large herds
are out to pastor already.
Henry Bosnian has been called to
Wingham awing to the serious ill-
ness of his mother. She is in her
88th year and has been quite active

ceived word that his brother, John
Wilkinson, of Grand Rapids, Mich.,
had passed suddenly 'away on Tues-
day. No further particulars were re-
ceived. Deceased was born in Morris
and has lived for a number of years
