About forty of her relatives and neighbors gath- ered with her to offer congratulat- ions. Congratulatory messages were received from Toronto, Hamilton, London and Goderich. Mrs, Young was also the recipient of many beau- tiful flowers and gifts of differeent kinds, among which was a unique gift of a box of mints from Dr. Mar- garet Calder, which she bought while on a world cruise during the whole winter in Japan. The subject of this sketch was born near Stromness, Orkney Islands, Scotland in 1836 . and came to Canada with her par- ents, brothers and sisters about 75 years ago. In 1862 she was mar- ried to the late William !ham Young, who over for 3D e o years was Reeve of 'Col- borne township, Huron County. Mr. Young died in 1896 and three years afterwards' IMrs. Young moved Ito Wingham, where she has lived ever since. Lorne Kaake returned from Sas- katchewan on Saturday where he has spent six months. Miss Bessie Lowell leaves this week to continue her work in the African mission fields. Mrs. Tomlinson and Mrs. C. Cant- well, Toronto, were week end visitors at the home of W. E. Van Velsor. Dr. B. J. Hazlewood, Bowenanville was called to his home here owing to the serious illness of his mother, Mrs. W. C. We under- stand this is the first piano medal to come to Huron County. The Young People of the Trow- bridge United Church presented their play "Little Miss Jack" in the Township Hall on Monday night un- der the auspices of the Mission Band. A fair crowd attended and enjoyed a play that was well presented. Re- freshments were served to those tak- ing part by the members of the Mis- sion Band. On Sunday next a' special. Mother's Day and Baptism service will be held in the Ethel United Church at 3 p.m. when the three congregations of the circuit will unite. A large Mothers' choir selected from Ethel, Union and Roes will sing special numbers including chorus, duet and quartette, A number of infants will be baptized and a large congregation is expect- ed. The regular meeting of the Wo - Diens' Institute will be held on Thursday afternoon, May Kith at 2.30 o'clock at the home of Mrs. J. Bremner, Plans for next year's pro- s gram will be discussed. Charles Case, three miles east of Walton, McKillop boundary, fractur- ed his collarbone while putting down feed for stock. Mr. Case fell from a wagon on the barn floor. As this is Mr. Case's third accident within the last several years, it will leave him ,in a helpless condition at pre- sent. He is already handicapped with the loss of one hand. 4 BELGRAVE R. E.
