PERRJ£, OF WINGHAM HAS LONG AND UNIQUE EXPERIENCE, On Sunday evening, (Feb. 17th) Rev, Dr. Perrie devoted a short time to the charged condition In St, And- rew's church and congregational dur- Ing the 35 years he 'has been pastor. This is a long span in the allotted life of any man, and is uniqe in the history of the pastorates, which do not average much more than' four years, During his student days at Knox College he spent one summer on a Mission Fiche in Nissouri, and - on his graduation accepted a call from the congregation w}ioie (le was I3:ut satisfactory and pleasing as pleasing as statistics may bo in show - i big permanent and steady growth,. and for which the ministry as a whole is largely responsible, the itioa must not be loaned that it is in these matters the heart and mind of the ministers centre. They but largely reiieet the result of the pan- tor's work, It is In the spiritual realm that the pastor's real work ties, and it is here that lar. Perrie'a great success rests. Loyal and de- voted to the church of his choice, he stoutly and vigorously upheld .it throughout all the years. A keen ' student and with a mind well stored with 'scriptural knowledge, and from 1888 to 1890. Going to Gen- eva church, Cheeley, he had four., years successful work, coming to St. Andrew's, Wingham, in the Spring of 1894. And what a change has occurred in those 35 years. Of the 350 con- tributors to the church at that time only 40 remain, while the present membership is 378. Per- haps the financial end will emnbn» size more emphatically the changed cdnditions. When Dr. Perrie came to Wingham the Missionary givings were 3100 and last year the con gregation raised 31,667.00 while the , local congregation provided 39,417.- 87 9,417.87 for all purposes. Thechurch as a whole had a membership 181,370 and returns for end of 1927 show a membership of 172,538. The budget has grown from 3296,700 to 458,579 and the total givings from 32,096• sionary Society offers special caues s for rejoicing in that tneir contribu- tions have increased from $47,242 to $199,894. trained through long experience he does not find it necessary to use notes in his sermons. These it may be truly said are solidly based on scriptural truths, and have none of the modern sensttionalism so com- mon in larger centres, To hilt to preach the gospel as the fathers or the church preached and. taught; t.4 observe the Sabbath Day with re. verent decorum; and to live as toi let your light shine among men are the qualifications of a Christi,nt, which be tries to weekly emphasize. Dr. Perrie's many friends, locally and throughout, the province extend felicitations on his 35th anniversary as continuous pastor of one congre- gation. (Wingham, Advance.)
