"Como sit you Blown beside nae," said a father O his son, When the evening meal was finished and Me work of daywas dons ; "Draw nearer, boy, and isten well to what I have to say 1 I'll speak it now iu sonfldenoo, while mother is away. "I heard to -night, when I came homo from working bard all day, Your mother had been grieved, because her sou had gone astray, I don't believe in beating, for I think talc cions more good ; 1'11 neo the simplest kind of words, so's to be understood." "You're not a man, and won't bo, boy, for many years to mine -- And if you wero, your duty still would lie in your old home - The home where first you saw the light of clay and hoard the tone Of your mother's voice in singing you to sleep when all 810110. "Some children think, whou old enough to talk and go to sollooi, They're masters of their adieus and be- yond their mother's rule ; Believe no, boy, in childhood -and I'll say in manhood -you Will find the mother always is the wiser of the Iwo." "I'll say no more, your mother's step I Bear upon the stairs ; But boar in mind what I have said, and always in your prayers Remember her who is your guide in lite from day to day, You'll miss .her, 'boy, and know her worth when ahehas passed away." East Huron all Show. The annual Fall Show of this Society was held on the Grey Branch grounds, Brussels, on Thursday and Friday of last week and the results were most ;legafnc- tory when the wet weather and muddy state of the roads were taken into account. On Thursday the in- door department was well filled, notwithstanding the rain, and aI- most every prize on the list was competed for. The display of fanny wurk by the ladies has never been excelled hero. In the competition for the best butter there were some fifteen oe seventeen exhibitors and a nicer lot of butter and good bread is rarely seen at a Fall Show. The display of grain, roots, vegetables, fruit, &c., was excellent, and proved conclusively that the people of this locality aro in earnest iu supporting the Fall Exhibition. Had the weather been more favorable and the exhibitors from a distance bean able to get in we feel safe in saying the best ;low over held iu Brussels would have been seen. Friday morning the ram set in again and continued, with slight intermissions, until noon. This necessitated the receiving of a large number of en- tries alter 1 o'clock. 'There was a splendid showing of horses, espec- ially in young animals. Tho entries in cattle, sheep and page were up to the mark in quality if not in quan tity. Space will not permit of our particularizing so we subjoin the prize list, wIlioh will bo probably the best index of .what the show was like :- llousEe.-HEAVY DRAua0T.-Brood mare, having raised a foal iu 1887, Geo.
