Laird, junr., was assessed 95.00 and costs for interfering with the Magistrate while conducting the case. There are other oases to follow. Ether LINDLEY, the well-known come- dian died in New York on Wednesday, from injuries received by a fall. Lindley was well known throughout Canada, hav- ing visited professionally almost every city, town and village. He was a whole - smiled man, and his demise will be great- ly regretted. Lamont, while assisting to take a boat partially loaded up through the canyon, six miles from the mouth of Franklin or Forty -Milo River, was acting as bowman, sad while passing a rock the boat naught the current and, sheering off, partially 'filled, and the lines parting the boat up• rot on a rook. The deceased left the boat before it upset, and with an oar in one hand and a sack of flour under his arm straggled manfully to gain the shore, but the current being too strong he dis- appeared, and was found ten days after. wards and buried by some miners. BELL, operator and baggage -man at Brussels station for some time, has been promoted to relieving agent and has been succeeded by M. Hargy, who now holds the fort. Bell is a very aecommo. dating young man and deserves promo- tion. REV. S. loxes arrived home last Tues- day from an extended visit among old friends at Delmore, Clifford and other places. The rev. gentleman has only rested one Sabbath since giving ap his charge in Knox church and is enjoying first-class health. JNO. MOCEAE is building a new bank barn, 32x50 feet on his farm adjoining Brussels.. Last Friday evening Mr. 'Mo. Crae had the misfortune to fall while go- ing to the barn and gave bis right leg a had sprain. Be has been laid up since the accident. Taos. Hare, who has purchased pork 011 the market for a number of years, is building a good sized storehouse near the railway to put his pork in. He will also buy poultry for shipment, and any quan- tity of hides, sheep skins, &o. Brussels market will boom this Fell and Winter. Lase Wednesday morning Ohas. Sager and Miss Mary McDonald were united in marriage, at the manse, by Rev. J. Ross, B. A. The contracting parties were waited on by Miss Kate Robertson, of Kinoardine, and Chas. W. Jackson, of Brussels. Mr. and Mrs, Sager went to Toronto on the the morning train. Tim Posr wishes them success. REEVE MO0aA0rrne hired a horse, of uncertain age, from Councillor Wynn, last Tuesday, to take his exhibits to the Belgrave Fall Show. The animal went over all right and ate its feed in apparent good health but on the homeward trip scarcely a mile had been traversed when it fell dead on the road. A., at the red - donee of the bride's parents, in the pres- ence of a large number of guests. Mies Lizzie Wilson was the bridesmaid and Jno. Henderson, brother to the groom, the groomsman. Itis not merely using a stereotyped expreseion to say tbat the wedding gifts were costly and numerous. The happy couple went for a short bridal tour followed by the good wishes of a largo circle of relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Henderson intend residing in Buseels. John Stewart, a dry -goods clerk of Renfrew, met with a very peculiar acci- dent about 5, week ago. He was standing with a lead pencil in bis month, when a fellow clerkthrew a handful of socks over to him. The bundle struck the pencil and knocked it down his mouth. A proclamation has been issued by the Dominion Government bringing into immediate effect the Act of last session to amend the law respecting procedure in criminal oases. The Act changes the subjects of appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada in criminal matters, substitut- ing for the existing provisions a provision allowing in certain cases an appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada in crim- inal matters, and declaring that in all casesthe judgment of the Supreme r meCourt shall be final and conclusive, and that there shall be no appeal in any criminal case from any judgment or order of any court in Canadatoany Court of Appeal in Great Britain. 80RN'.
