STILL SAVE.—The twilight of a beauti-
ful April day was fast closing over the
fresh green earth, all had quit their daily
avocations for a night of quiet repose
and not a sound could be heard save that
of the little floods from the newly melted
snow pouring through the around and
the croaking of the ancient frog in the
pond which had been recently thawed
oat under the melting influooco of the
sunshine. But such peace and content-
ment was not destined to be the order on
this particular night, for all at once
dreadful sounds filled the air as of a
great army storming the positions of a
stubborn and not to bo vanquished foe.
Your oorrsspoudsnt being struck with
the idea that perhaps the advocates of
Canadian Independence hail taken up
arms in behalf of their cause and were
tnarohing to the sea, at once determined
to pr000edas near as practicable with safe-
ty and ascertain the facts if possible. He
had not gone many miles when dash af.
ter flash could be seen es each volley was
fired from what appeared in the distance
to bo Gatling guns and daring the inter-
vals ether heavy sounds could be heard
and now and then a shrill sound as of a
bugle. Upon venturing a little closer
however, it was learned from stragglers
in the rear that Choy were only armed
with old muskets, plow mouldboards, now
bells and dinner horns and that their
purpose was entirely different from what
we supposed. Your correspondent's
fears of a rebellion being relieved he pro-
ceeded home knowing that further parbi.
euiers would spread like wild fire in a
day or two and indeed euoh was the oase
for it was soon learned that Alex. Lear-
mont, of the 14th con. had "jumped the
broomstick" and a large number turned
out on that partloular night with every
instrument imaginabie that would make
a noise to let him know it. The lucky
girl is Miss Mary Brigham. She had
resided with her parents in that vicinity
for some years but they bad moved away
some time ago and this ivoalding was not
expected so soon but here the saying is
verified that "Absence makes the heart
grow fonder." May their greatest trouble
