Annie has been very low for over a week with pleurisy and inflam- mation of the Ings, for some hours no hopes wore entertained of her recovery, but she has been progreasing favorably for at least the past 24 hours. Our Dr. has had some very severe oases in the neighborhood of Ethel, and is meeting with the success he so well merits. 3), W. Milne nearly lost his youngest obild (17 months old) by her accidently getting hold of a can of concentrated Miceli, one of the strongest preparations of alkali known. She filled her mouth, fortunately not swallowing any. Her mouth, tongue and throat were fearfully burned, so numb so that she could take nothing for over a week but milk, and could swallow that with difficulty. She is getting bettor fast. Ce-ttnbrooJ. . Bev. D. B. McBee will go to the Gen- eral Assembly at Winnipeg this next summer. Mrs. J. F. Stewart owns a hen that is laying N. P. eggs that measure distil inches. The boom is coming. We are sorry to hear that owing to A.. McKay going into business in Brussels Mrs. and Miss McKay will remove to the hub too. Mr. MoXay's many friends around here wish him emcees and will help put a few dollars in his pocket. Morriss. Will Milne returned from the Medical College in Toronto, this week, having euooeedad in passing his examination with honors. Capt. Bawling, who had charge of the Salvation Army here, has been stationed at Teeswater. Capt. Irvine, of Bowman- ville, succeeds him. Tho ladies turned out in full farce on Saturday evening last and took in the millinery opening at the Mammoth House which was a grand success. The Salvation Army held their jubilee in the Temperance Hall on Friday even- ing. Owing to the unpleasant weather the attendance was small. While in town ono day last west Geo. Watt had the misfortune to lose a vain. able horse. blr, Watt has had consider- able trouble with his horses this winter. This being the fifth ono that he has lost. Rev. R. Henderson, a graduate of the Presbyterian College, Montreal, occupied the pulpit in the Presbyterian ehnreh last Sabbath, both morning and evening, and delivered two excellent discourses. On Saturday last our town was some- what on the stir when it became known that Constable Paisley was in town and that all our hotelkeel:ers had been sum- moned to answer the charge of the vio- lation of the Scott Ant. Some of them acted wisely and admitted their guilt and paid the fine imposed upon them. Bub es far as we can learn two or three of them are going to stand their trial which will take place on Friday of this week, A beautiful diploma and a medal for pupils' work, awarded by the Royal Com- missioners at the Colonial and Indian Exhibition, has been received by S. W. Shaw, Principal of the Public School, from the Educational Department of On- tario, and was on exhibition at P. Ittet- oalf's book store. This reflects creat credit upon the teachers for their efforts in promoting their pupils, and also upon the trueness fog their acumen displayed in selecting good teaohors. On Tuesday evening last Alex. Mur- doch was the receipient of a beautiful dressing ease, prior to bis departure from town. The presentation was held at the residence of J. B. Kelly. A suitable ad- dress was prepared for the occasion, Alex,, who has been a reeident of this town for a number of years, will be great- ly missed as he always took an active part in the town's welfare.
