TseE Wingham Tithes says :-A series of skating races were held in the rink here on Friday evening last. Tieo first one, for boys under 14 year, was a good one, those being four entries and was won by Jooky Anderson. The matched race between Comm and Smith was a regular hippodrome, Cornyn purporly losing the race, It was perfectly plain to bo seen from the beginning that Cornyn was the faster skater, and all through the race he 515 just what he liked. A groat many of the epootators wore down on Cornyn for noting in the way ho did, but when it is known that on the afternoon of the race the Brussels mon backed down and the stake money, which was held by a Brusselite, was rofsnded them, and they would not allow Smith to race unless Cornyn's backers would guarantee that Smith would win the rano, it will not be wondered at that Cornyn acted the way ho did. We thinlc that the Brussels mot anted very shabbily over the matter, and it is they who ought to bo censured in- stead of Cornyn, [In regard to rho above item there aro several direct falsehoods that can be proven to be such. let, There was not a cent of money on the 2nd, hence it could not bo withdrawn. , It was at ileo suggestion of Cornyn's backers that the race was a "fixed" ono with the expectation of "pulling" some of the Winghamitos, ae Cornyn said tJeoy would not bet against him, and the bobs were to bo divided when Smith won with the Brussels boys.
