Macdonald Administration will, in
all probability, have a folleiviug of
from 15 to 25. At the last election
they had a majority of 71 in the
House. Snppneing this to be the
case matters will be more equally
livid• d and both parties will bore
to watob after their interests closely.
Tnr Toronto Standard, which
carried on such an aggrsesivo war-
fare a(tainet the Reform party has
suspended, having fulfilled its min.
sit -in --that of a campaign sheat. It
is stated that it may be resurrected
shortly to become the exponent
of the Conservative pause owing
to the independent course pnraued
by the Mail.

After tlte discussion of the Speech
from the Throne business will be
rushed through lively. The address
harks out the line of procedure to
be pursued. Following so soon of
ter the election the affairs of the
House will be more closely watched
than fur a long time iu our. history.
LAST Tuesday's Contest in torr
neotiohh with the Domiuion Govern-
ment election has, we behove, made
a great deal of alteration iu the
complexion of the House. In the
East Biding of Huron, Dr. Mac-
donald, the Reform candidate, won
a very brilliant victory over Thos.
Farrow, the representative for the
pant 15 years. To the township of
Grey is due the honor of the sue
cess of this election the 1118) Jia
counted all past recorls by polling a
majority of 313 for the Dr. Flow•
iolr township did nut do what was
expected of it for Mr. 'Sorrow, nor
did Bruasela or Morris and the Cou•
servatives were disappoin'c.l over
the result. Dr, Macdonald will be
a credit to the riding, Lawyer, and
we are confident that boa, political
parties will receive fair play from
him. Wo will gree the complete re-
turns in oar next inane. It, the
South riding John McMillan was
elected by nearly 700 of a majority
over Dr. Campbell, and in the West
riding B. Porter defeat• d M. 0.
Cameron by 28. Tam fight iu the
latter riding was it hot one all
through and the probability is that
the Election Courts will have some-
thing to say about the result before

Parties being so closely babtuotel,
it appears altogether probable that
the now parliament will in any event-
he
venthe a whorl-livetl one. Out of the
elements returned it will hardly' be
possible either to secure a eatiefnot
ory working majority for the present
Ministry, or for any other govern•

The Toronto News says :-The
oloclioih Tuesday has probably re-
sulted in tlhe return of Sir John
Macdonald to power by a small ma-
jority. In Ontario, though there
are numcrods changes, the general
cotriplexiou of the reprtteontation is
but slightly altered ; but in Quebec
as was anticipated, the Opposition
has made. heavy gains. '.['hough
the Maritime Provinces appear to
have sustained the Milieu's', the

as to the position of some of the

it is difficult to calculate with say
degree of exactness the poeitiou of
