Sloan, eldest son of Dr. Sloan, of Blyth, regret, very deeply, his unexpect- ed demise. The Dr. was practioing his profession at Listowel and taking ill there he went to his father's to be cursed but instead of getting bettor he gradually sank. The funeral on New Year's day was largely attended, although the day was bitterly cold. Typhoid fever was the cause of the Dr's. death. He was a most ;estimable young man and was beloved by all who knew him and will bo greatly missed at Listowel. Ho was unmarried. A BESET of ordinary paper warmed in front of a fire will, in a dark Ithaca, give a very decided electric spark on the appli- cation of the knuckle, with a crackling sound. On placing a sheet of gold leaf between two sheets of paper thus electri- fied, and passing a pencil point over them in a zigzag course, a luminous flash quite strong will appear. SDDDEN DRATn.—On Thursday evening of last week Harry Town received a tele- gram from his brother, George, that hie wife had died very suddenly on that afternoon. It was a matte r of great sur- prise and regret, more particularly as there had been no word of her being ill. On Saturday evening the body arrived at Brusselsaccompanied by the bereft hus- band, Alias Armstrong, sister of the de. ceased, who had gone to Chicago the week before, and a little baby girl. The funer- al took place on Sunday morning, the service being conducted at the Methodist church, where Rev. Mr. Smyth preached from the text found in Luke .12th chapter and 40th verse. There was a large eon- gregation present. On Thursday morn- ing Mrs. sown gave birth to twins, a boy ands girl, the ono child being dead. Tho mother never rallied and although the best medical skill woe in attendance the patientbreathod her last in the afternoon of the same day. The ono baby was. buried in the coffin with its mother. Mr. Town was busy in tho erection of a brick residence and making every arrangement for enjoying the comforts of this life.
