—The Seaforth Expositor of the 17th
says, in reference to a former resident of
Brussels :—A very happy event occurred
in the private parlor of the Commercial
Hotel in this town on Wednesday last,
boiog the marriage of 0. W. Barnes, of
Toronto, to Miss Lizzie, second daughter
of John Oampbell. The important cere-
mony was performed by 18 v. Mr. Mc-
Donald, and the affair was very quiet,
none but the members of Mr. Campbell's
family being prevent. Mr. Barnes, with
Itis pretty bride, left for the East by the
110013train. In common with Mrs. Barnes'
many friends here we extend to her our
hearty oongratul.tions and wish her a
very happy future. The following para.
graph taken from the Globe of Tuesday
shows the esteem in which Mr. Barnes is
held by those who have been most inti-
mately associated with him. It says ;—
"A pleasing event took place on Saturday
at the establishment of Thomas May &
Co., in the presentation of a handsome
silver tea service and ice pitcher to 0. W.
Barnes, one of the firm's Western travel-
lers, be his fellow -employees in Montreal
and Toronto. Tho occasion was ]lie ap
preaching marriage. W. ^II. Harris,
manager of the Toronto house, in a neat
speech referred to the general respect and
esteem in which the recipient is held by
1020 and all, and tendered their best wish-
es for tho future happiness of their con-
frere. Mr. barns responded in a happy
and feeling strain."
Oorro, or.—Miss Eliza, 310M10111e1, the
subject of this sketch, was born in the
nnty Cavan, parish of liihnoro, Fe-
d, in the ,year 1832. Tho f.,mf y eon -
ed of four si0tel'5 anct two bothers, of
w11om she was the eldest. At an ea ly
ago she b -came a member of the churchta
of Eng cud, to nide', her parents were ab-
ch0d,bot regularly attended the Primi-
tive Methodist church, a strong feeling of
Christian unity existing between those
bodies at that time. When about four-
teen, witlliu the space of one year her
parents and one sister wore removed by
death, and this devolved upon her, at this
early age, the mute) cares of the family
and the duties of the household, which
she faithfully performed until within the
short space of six years her two remain-
ing 5i5ters'and one brother wore also re-
. inovecl by the dread tyrant, death, thus
10491ligher alone in the world. Some
fourteen year; ago she crossed the At-
lantic auc!loeated in Toronto where 0110
was engaged in the Millinery and Fancy
Goods establishment of ]lir. MoMurrey.
About five years ago her health began to
fail and elle visited her cousins, Jamie
Kelly, Mrs. Wm. Norton and Mrs. Hinds,
in Brussels, last fd11, returning to her
home in Toronto on Nov. 1 and on the
10th of December, 1886, her spirit took
its flight. During her illnes She had the
best medical aid, but without . avail, and
she was also attended by sortie of • the
moot respectable ladies of Toronto, Mayor
Howland himself taking quite an interest
in her. The last rites of the church were
administered to her by the Rov, John
Potts, D.D,, and to him she expressed the
confidence in the future, which can only
come from a faithful heart. She was
buried in Mt. Pleasant cemetery to Which
her remains was followed by a largo con-
