New Era will interest our country
readers :—
Sne.—I perceive in the Winglutua
Times a note from the mitten anent
tho growing of fall wheat, to which
matter I have paid souls liltIa tten•
tion. Qf late years the Clawson, or
Seneca, has given us the beet returns
a strong rank grower, fairly hardy,
we have got 85 and 40 bushels to the
acre, and I have men 50 ou some
fields. 11 is a light second clam
wheat, but the yield has compeueated
for the interior quality. I tried the
Scott wheat three years. but only got
one crop, It is too tender for liar -
on. In Essex and Leaubton it 18 tbe
most euccessful wheat, aud. is of the
first quality. I have sown the De-
mocrat four years with sumess—
have twice had 40 bushels to the
acre, and it weighs from 133 to 04
pounds per hueliel.. I moulder it the
beet wintering whet wo have, and
although it will not yield as much,
perhaps, as °lawmen, the quality is
very muoli superior. Last fall I
sowed four acme of the Martin, or
Star Amber, acrotet the middle of a
fifteen acre field of summer fallow.
It Lau not wintered as well, and is
1101 86 good as the Democrat 011 01111-
er side. The. edgee of the strip cau
be seen for considerable distance.
But wish to say to die millers who
complain of the Seneca, that if they
would pay the price for red wheat 1
thtnk it would bo grown. Do they
encourage us to grow it 2 Do they
not offer us just ae much fnr Seneca
as for Demoncrat 2 1 Bola to millere
last year, and for my 700 bushels
Democrat I took Clawson price for
all, except what I sold for seed. The
red wheat is worth five mots per
buebel more, and if the millers would
make tho difference they would see
more red wheat brought to the mark-
et. I remain, yours truly,
W. Son.
