it was feared the skating rink would
have suffered, but it weathered the

Toronto Presbytery, which was hold
on Tuesday of this weak, that Rev.
John Much reported that he had
moderated in a oall by the congreglt•
tion of Knox church, Searboro'. At
a meeting ou Tuesday, 16th MIarch,
the oongergation decided to extend a

this week John Moore, of Henfryn,
on cotnpiaiut of A. Cavan, Inland
Revenue Inspector, of Stratford, was
brought before A. Heater and Jno,
Shaw, J. P'e., for unlawfully having
a still, word, and other awe rates in
his possession. The primer pleaded
guilty, was fined $250 and ordered to
be imprisoned in common gaol, at
Goderich, for ono month. The prig
0ner was talcon to the Co, town on
Thursday afternoon. Moore is about
24 years of age, unmarried, and has
been a ate dy going young fellow,
running a threshing machine, of late
years. His home used to he on the
14th con. of Grey, He was oporat
ing the still in his house near the

Cavan, accompanied by Constables
Scott and Chapman took a livery rag
and drove to Hsufryn, arriving there
about 12• o'olook Wednesday night,
Moore wee in bed. After his arrest
the premises were searched and all
the appliances for the manufacture of
"forty rod” found. They secured
about 2 gallone of liquor and a bag
of malt. There was a mash ready
for 48 gallons. All the barrels, tubs,
.bo.. were destroyed. The prisoner
had nut been in the business long

Cavan is a cool, sharp, and efficient
officer nnd understands his business
thoroughly. Moore would not have
