P.—Dear Sir, It is with pleasure on this occasion that we tender to you our hearty thanks for the able manner in which you have discussed the political quos • tams of the day, but more particular- ly are we imbued vith gratitude in viewing your long and eucoessful oareer as a politican, and your untir- ing zeal in the discharge of your duty to your constituents and the Province to which you belong, hut while enjoy. ing the local benefits derived from your earnest efforts we would not overlook the more important events transpiring in the political amen, namely, our Provincial autonomy. As long as you resist the disintegation of our Province, and the confiscation of our Provincial wealth by the Feder- al Government, and attend to minor &thee, so long sir, are NYS convinced that you will hold a foremont place in the esteem and oonfidenee of the electors of East Huron. There is a large tract ef country to be covered and a two or three months visit is not going to enable troops, even if a flying column, to more than take merely a hur- ried look at certain favored por- tions of the country. Then the appearance of military men is not likely to soothe the feeling of unrest possessed by certain Indian tribes or dissatisfied Metis, rather more likely to provoke another skirmish or stir up old feuds. We have every confidence in our soldier boys and feel assured that they will stand fire like veterans when it is necessary, but this thing of galloping from one end of the country to another is not giving them any show and in fact is only adding to the large amount already to be raised for paying the rebel- lion losses and expenses, without any practical benefit being derived. Tun first copies of the Revising Barrister's Voters' List are out and the 9th day of April is fixed for holding the first sitting for the preliminary revision before Judge Doyle, in the Town Hall, Wing - ham. 'We have been opposed to this Franchise Bill all along, as we consider it the cause of a large and unnecessary expense when the work of getting out the Voters' Lists has been done so satisfactory in the past. The publishing of these new lists will add from $2,- 500 to $8,000 to our taxation in Huron Co., to say nothing of wit- ness fees ontlaries, &c., dee. There are about 50 or more names on the Brussels list alone that will be ap- pealed against, and we presume it will be much the same the County over. We believe in ovary man who has a right to vote having his name on the list and being allowed to exercise his franchise as seemeth him good, but the idea of placing names of boys of 18 or 19 years of age on the list and putting on ex• pense to have their names struck off is not square. By the time these lists aro through with and the sum total of expense made public we imagine the electorate will say it is paying dear for the whistle. Then this same thing will have to bo gone through an- nually and the lists are of no use except for Dominion House elec- tions, which are supposed to occur once in five year.
