AT the meeting of the Direotores,
patrons and shareholders of the
Cheese factory, held last Saturday,
J. W. Robertson, the. new dheese
maker, gave a very wore/ding and
instructive address on cheese making
and dairying interests generally. itir.
Robertson is a practical man aud'un-
doretands his business thoroughly.
He has recently been appoointod In-
spector of the Dairying interests of
Western Ontario, by the Ontario
Government. A hearty vote of thanks
was passed to the speaker. John
Forbes was appointed salesman for
the incoming season. Several of the
milk routes were lot by auction and
the remaining routes will be let on
Saturday, Feb. 27th, 'at the Town

R. Mannino, of Exeter, 1)ietrict
agent for the.Confederation Life As-
sociation, was in town on Tuesday
attending to the preliminary arrange-
ments for the settlement of the claim
of the late A. Webster for $2,000
against that Company. Mr. Man-
ning is one of the beet agents in the
Province. One of 11i:r. Webster's
petioles had been in force for five
years and the other was taken last
November and therefore only one
payment, (or his note for it) had been
made. The nioney will tie paid to
the widow as soon as the will is prov-
en and the guardianship papers
ready. One thing that elan be said in
favor of the Confederation Co., and
their estimable agent, is that they
are very prompt in settling all just
claims and $1.000 of the $2,00 would
have been paid to Airs. Webster be.

must be complied with', ' •

THE SKATING Rias. -Considerable
,discussion has been raised over' the
letter read by Rev. Mr. Smyth, tont
Sunday evening, and his reply to the
enquiry. The writer asked if the
rink was a proper place for people
professing to be Christians, and dealt
some hard blows about the "mixed"
society found there. The rev. gentle-
man stated that no 'lady should at-
tend the rink without an escort; no
member of the church should go there
.while meetings were in progress' in
their church and if a person could not
ask Ihs blessing of God upon them
as they went to the rink they should
not go, if they are Christians. We
agree with Mr. Smyth in the main
but we do not fall in with the a long.
mous interrogator. The skating rink
is like every other public gathering,
there's theewheat and chaff, but a
lady can boas choice in her company
there as any place °lee and need
not take up with persons who are not
to her taste. The Directors have
rules governing the conduct of those
attending and anything ungentleman
ly or inclining to rowdyism would
soon be snuffed out. We believe in'
healthful' exercise, not indulging in it
until exhausted, and while there may-
be objections raised to an enclosed
rink we are of the opinion that ,they
are more than counterbalances by the
dangers, and exposure of out -door
skating. On the Brussels skating
rink may be found some of the most
respectable people of the place and to
set it.down as a resort for the great
unwashed ie a•libel on our best oiti.seas.
Mr. Smyth's idea of youngster being
sent to the rink, if at all, in the after-
noons instead of the .evenings in in
accordance with our 'Melte of what is
right. Children should not bo allow-
ed to remain on the rink until 10 o'-
clock at night, but as, every parent
think themselves capable of managing
their own household we suppose we
will have to allow them to engineer
this business.
